What does a tube preamp actually add to your music?
I just spent some time with the LSYSAQ T3 “Lush Sound” Tube Preamplifier — a compact little preamp with Bluetooth, RCA input/output, tone controls, tube rolling options, and a surprisingly busy internal circuit board.
The interesting part is the sound: tubes can add a touch of harmonic character that may make music feel warmer, richer, and more enjoyable.
I also open it up, look at the circuitry, talk about why tube distortion can sound good, and explain the compatible tube options.

Vancouver Audio Festival 2026 | KEF + Luxman + IsoAcoustics

Same speakers. Same amplifier. Same music. One important difference.

This was one of the most fascinating demonstrations I experienced at the Vancouver Audio Festival, hosted by HiFi Centre in Vancouver, BC.

Two pairs of identical KEF loudspeakers, one finished in woodgrain and the other in blue, were driven by Luxman Class A amplification.

The difference? The blue speakers have IsoAcoustics isolators installed beneath their stands, between the stands and the floor.

Watch the small light above the left blue speaker. When the light turns ON, the music switches from the woodgrain speakers to the blue speakers. When it turns OFF, the music switches back.

Listen carefully. Can you hear the difference?

I was genuinely surprised by how dramatically the sound changed during the demonstration!

Of course, a recording cannot fully reproduce what I experienced in the room, but this demonstration made me want to explore speaker isolation much more closely.

I'd love to hear your impressions in the comments. If there's enough interest, I'll produce a dedicated, long-form YouTube video exploring IsoAcoustics speaker isolation, how it works, and whether it can make a meaningful difference in a home audio system.

Another incredible listening experience from the Vancouver Audio Festival 2026, hosted by HiFi Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia!

This demonstration features Focal loudspeakers paired with Naim electronics, delivering an unforgettable high-end audio experience.

And the music? I absolutely LOVE this track! I haven't been able to stop playing it since hearing it at the festival. It's the kind of music that makes you want to turn up the volume and dance!

A quick listen to one of the standout systems from today’s Vancouver Audio Festival at HiFi Centre in Vancouver, featuring Focal loudspeakers and Naim electronics.

HiFi Centre hosted the Vancouver Audio Festival on September 19, 2026, bringing together a wide range of high-end audio systems, manufacturer representatives, and hands-on listening demonstrations for both serious audiophiles and casual music lovers.

This was a beautifully presented event and a great reminder that Vancouver can absolutely host a world-class high-end audio experience.

The SMSL DS300 is live.

This is one of the strangest-looking DAC/headphone amps I’ve had on the desk — but underneath that wild design is some seriously capable hardware.

ESS ES9039Q2M DAC
XMOS XU-316 USB
Up to 32-bit / 768 kHz PCM
DSD512
Balanced XLR outputs
Near-zero headphone output impedance
And up to 3 watts per channel into 16 ohms

I spent several days listening to the DS300 before filming, and there’s a lot more going on here than the design might suggest.
