The next generation of MUSES has arrived.

I've been spending some time with the new MUSES05 from Nisshinbo Micro Devices, and I have to say... the engineering behind this op amp is fascinating.

Unlike traditional dual-channel DIP-8 op amps, the MUSES05 is a single-channel device available only in a surface-mount package. The assemblies shown here use two MUSES05 op amps mounted on custom adapter boards to create a drop-in replacement for a standard dual-channel DIP-8 socket.

Over the coming days I'll be putting these through their paces, exploring the engineering, comparing them with the legendary MUSES02, and showing exactly how and why Nisshinbo took such a different design approach.

I turned the Fosi Audio V3 Mono into the “V3 MAX.”

The V3 Mono is a fantastic little amplifier—but it runs HOT. So I decided to find out how much I could improve its cooling without using fans.

For this project, I used five different cooling strategies:

✅ Removed the decorative side-vent covers
✅ Installed taller feet for better airflow
✅ Replaced the thermal paste at both internal heat-transfer points
✅ Added huge external aluminum heatsinks
✅ Switched from a 48V/10A supply to separate 36V/5A supplies for each amp

The result is my unofficial Fosi Audio V3 MAX—a heavily modified pair of monoblock amplifiers built to run cooler and, hopefully, reduce long-term heat stress.

But did all of this actually make a meaningful difference?

Sometimes the best audio surprises are already sitting on your shelf.

I recently pulled my AIYIMA D03 back out for another project, expecting it to simply power a pair of custom-built speakers while I tested them.

Instead, I found myself genuinely impressed.

For such an affordable, fully featured integrated amplifier, the AIYIMA D03 delivered exceptional clarity, excellent imaging, and a listening experience that was far more engaging than I expected. It reminded me that great sound isn't always about spending more—it's about finding the right combination of components.

I've also included some new studio-quality photos of the D03. I think this little amplifier deserves more attention than it gets.
