That’s a wrap on CANSEC 2026.

Last week our team had the opportunity to connect with defence and security leaders from across Canada and beyond, sharing how autonomous, zero-emission USVs can support persistent maritime awareness and security operations.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by Booth 4110 to see the DataXplorer™ USV and explore live mission operations through XplorerView™. The conversations, questions, and ideas shared throughout the event made for an incredibly valuable few days.

We look forward to reconnecting with many of you in the coming weeks and continuing the conversation around the future of Canadian maritime innovation.

Last month, Open Ocean Robotics was proud to participate in the NOMAD Citizen Demonstration in Victoria, hosted by the Royal Canadian Navy's Advanced Naval Capabilities Unit (ANCU) to showcase Canada’s rapidly growing ocean technology sector to defence stakeholders and decision makers.

CEO and Co-founder Julie Angus presented recent projects demonstrating how autonomous, zero-emission USVs can support maritime awareness and security operations across Canadian waters.

On the water, USV Operations Technician Sebastian Deggan delivered a live demonstration of a DataXplorer™ USV operating just meters from the event space, giving attendees a firsthand look at autonomous operations in real time. Through our XplorerView™ portal, guests were able to follow live mission data feeds detect, track, and identify targets of interest from multiple sensor systems, including Enhanced Horizon™, Underwater Listener™, and onboard radar.

Events like NOMAD highlight the growing role Canadian innovation can play in helping detect, monitor, and protect our waters.

The future of maritime security is autonomous, persistent, and made in Canada.

That feeling when you show up ready for work… and then remember it’s a holiday.

DataXplorer™ got the message eventually and is now heading back to the DX Solar Station for a recharge before clocking back in tomorrow.

Happy Victoria Day from the Open Ocean Robotics team. Enjoy the long weekend!

How easy is it to deploy a DataXplorer™?

We could tell you… but it’s better to show you.

Watch USV Operations Technician Sebastian Deggan roll one of our USVs straight to the launch site, no heavy equipment required. Designed for simplicity in the field, so teams can focus on the mission, not the logistics.

Great few days at the ABCMI & COAST Defence & Security Innovation Forum 🌊

It was exciting to connect with leaders across defence, security, and ocean tech and hear how innovation is shaping the future of Canadian waters.

Our CEO and Co founder Julie Angus spoke on advancing technologies from concept to real world deployment, sharing how ocean tech is moving from ideas to operational impact 🚀

With strong engagement from the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard, one thing was clear, Canada is focused on accelerating defence innovation, especially in Arctic and remote regions.

At Open Ocean Robotics, we’re proud to support this with our zero emission, mission ready USV technology designed for persistent ocean monitoring.

What are you most excited to see next in Canadian defence and security? Let us know below ⬇️

From classroom innovation to future Arctic missions.

We’re proud to have partnered with the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) Oceans Technology program, working alongside students to explore de-icing techniques for the solar panels on our DataXplorer™ USVs. As we look toward operations in the Canadian Arctic, maintaining reliable power in cold and variable conditions is a challenge we’re actively working to solve.

The creativity and dedication these students brought to the project were on full display at the NSCC Tech Showcase this March. Their work represents an important early step as we continue testing, refining, and integrating solutions for more extreme environments.

Collaborations like this are helping shape the future of ocean technology in Atlantic Canada and beyond, while giving students hands-on experience tackling real-world challenges.

We’re excited to keep building on this work as we prepare for what’s ahead.
