Throwback Tuesday to where it all started.

Before the logs went up at Long Lake, the heavy timber frame in the basement had to come first. This was March, cold and snowy, and the crew was already deep into it. If you caught the log raising later that month, this is what was underneath it all.

Out with the old.

Before a new log home can go up at Otter Lake, the existing structure had to come down. Our team brought in the excavator and got to work; what may have taken years to build came down in a day.

Ever wondered what goes into building a custom home from start to finish? Here is the full picture.

At Gurr Building Services we handle every phase of the build, from demolition and site prep all the way through to final finishes and landscaping. Two of our current builds are live on this chart right now. Otter Lake is at site prep and excavation, and Long Lake is in the dry shell phase with windows going in next week.

Sometimes step one is taking down what's already there. Gurr Building Services offers full demolition as part of the complete package. Wesley and the crew handle the teardown, keep the site clean and contained, and haul everything off before the real work begins.

Not every project is a full home build. Sometimes it's something a little more unexpected.

This is a custom outdoor spa structure we built earlier this year. Sauna, change room, outdoor shower, hot tub area and a wood shed, all wrapped in timber framing with cedar detailing, fibre lighting and custom glass. The kind of project the crew enjoys building and the customer enjoys spending time in.

Before the foundation goes in, sometimes you have to deal with what's underneath first.

This is the start of a brand new build out on Otter Lake. Canadian Shield bedrock doesn't move easy, but that's what the Demarock D125 is for. Big thanks to Creighton Rock Drill Ltd for keeping us running out there.
