On June 1, the Manitoba Prospectors & Developers Association (MPDA) welcomed leaders from Indigenous Nations, government, industry, and the environmental sector to the Manitoba Legislative Building for our forum, Strengthening Partnerships: Building Manitoba's Critical Minerals Future Together.
The event brought together a diverse group of speakers and participants committed to advancing meaningful dialogue around Manitoba's critical minerals future.
We were honoured to hear from:
• Hon. Jamie Moses, Minister of Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation
• Grand Chief Kyra Wilson, Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs
• Grand Chief Jerry K. Daniels, Southern Chiefs' Organization
• Lorne Pelletier, Manitoba Métis Federation
• Carla Devlin, Sio Silica Corporation and MPDA Vice President
• Annette Woodroffe, Manitoba Environmental Industries Association
• Obby Khan, Leader of the Official Opposition
• Chris Whorton, Alamos Gold Inc.
• Terry Brown, President, MPDA Board of Directors
• Renee Greyeyes, Chief Executive Officer, MPDA
While perspectives varied, a shared message emerged throughout the morning: Manitoba's critical minerals opportunity will be strengthened through early engagement, strong relationships, environmental stewardship, and meaningful Indigenous participation.
MPDA extends sincere appreciation to Elder C Steve Richard for opening the gathering in a good way and to Morgan Grace, Métis fiddler, for performing the Red River Jig and leading us into our feast. We also thank all speakers, attendees, volunteers, sponsors, and partners who helped make this event a success.
We would also like to recognize Sio Silica Corporation as MPDA's first Founding Leadership Circle Member. Their commitment to supporting dialogue, relationship-building, and collaboration across Manitoba's resource sector reflects the spirit of partnership that guided this event.
Thank you as well to our event partners:
• Alamos Gold Inc. – Frontier Partner
• Multicrete Systems Inc. – Explorer Partner
• Perimeter Aviation – Explorer Partner
• Cyr Drilling International – Cultural Partner
• Tria Solutions Ltd – Cultural Partner
• Manitoba Mineral Development Fund (MMDF) – Exhibitor Partner
One message resonated throughout the day:
Successful development begins with relationships.
Before permits.
Before projects.
Before investments.
MPDA remains committed to creating opportunities for Indigenous Nations, industry, government, educators, environmental organizations, and communities to come together, build understanding, strengthen partnerships, and support a responsible and prosperous future for Manitoba.
The conversations started on June 1 are only the beginning.
