DD15/16 counterbore repairs!

With the amount of engines moving through the shop, we have started to notice head gasket failures on the DD15/16 platform, The root cause of this is counterbore fretting/damage, which allows the liner to slightly move under high pressures and heat which eventually causes head gasket failure. The repair steps as per Dealership/OEM is to change the engine with a good used block or new reman which doubles the repair time and expense. That being said, we went out on a limb and purchased the proper tooling to repair DD15/16 counterbores just the same as the Re-manufacturer would in hopes to save our customers on down time and repair expenses.

DD15 engine block replacement.

Customer complaint of coolant in base, we found the counterbore extremely eroded which had damaged liner and liner o-ring allowing coolant to pass by. Block is beyond repair.

Replaced with good used engine block, swapped all parts then completed engine over haul with an aftermarket kit and “performance” cylinder head we sell that withstands more heat! Back to work for this twin steer western star!
