Swissloop We are a Swiss Inter-faculty team focused on implementing and improving the hyperloop technology. without crashing).

The idea of the so-called Hyperloop was unveiled by SpaceX founder Elon Musk back in 2013. It proposes a novel high-speed ground system allowing you to travel from Zürich to Berlin in 40 minutes. As neither SpaceX nor Tesla is developing a commercial Hyperloop themselves, they announced an open competition, gearing towards university students to design and construct the best Hyperloop pod. To supp

ort this competition SpaceX is constructing a one-mile test track, where the university teams are able to test their human scale pods.

- Competition

There are two judging phases in the competition: a design competition that will be held at the start of 2017 and an on-track competition to be held later in 2017. The competition is open to participants globally, although all judging will occur in the United States. There was already a first promising round of competitions this year, which lead SpaceX to announce a second installment of the competition commencing in fall 2016. The second competition will be judged solely on one criteria: maximum speed with successful deceleration (i.e. Despite its relatively short-lived existence, the excitement about the revolutionary Hyperloop has amassed quite some attention among students in particular in the US, where student teams such as from Princeton, MIT and UC Berkeley are currently participating. However, also European teams such as from Delft University or the TU München can be found among the teams leading the charge in this year’s competition.

- Team

Our team is gathering the best Swiss students of physics, mathematics, computer science and, most prominently, of electric, mechanical- and civil engineering. In close collaboration with Swiss higher education institution like ETH Zürich, we aim to research the Hyperloop concept and invigorate Switzerland's pioneering mobility spirit.

- Why we need to do it? We think that the ground travelling of today is ready for the next upgrade: a means of transport that revolutionizes the idea of how we connect and shape opportunity in today’s globalized world. We want to innovatively support this endeavor with our ideas and to partake in building a sustainable future. Last but not least, the student competition also offers the exceptional opportunity to interact and learn from other engaged students from various cultural and social backgrounds. In the hopes of reciprocating ETH’s academic and financial support, we are eager to see ETH among the other participating universities at the forefront of this next unstoppable revolution in transportation.

✨ European Hyperloop Week 2025 ✨

While our new team is already diving into the design of the 10th Swissloop pod, we look back at an unforgettable finale to the 2025 project year. 🚀

Our Marcel Hug ( ) pod brought home an amazing set of awards:

🏆 Engineering Design Award
🏆 Best Propulsion Award
🏆 Integrated Hyperloop Design Award
🏆 Best Vacuum Award

🥈 2nd Place Overall

With 4 out of 5 technical awards and just 25 points shy of 1st place ( ), we couldn’t be prouder. 💪

Now it’s full speed ahead into our 10th season of building Hyperloop prototypes at Swissloop.

Here’s to what’s next! 🚄✨

And the name is... Marcel Hug!

This Tuesday marked one of the biggest milestones of our project year: the Swissloop Sponsoring Rollout.

We had the great honour of welcoming Marcel Hug – Swiss Paralympic athlete and multiple medalist – as the namesake of our pod.

We proudly unveiled our pod, the result of countless days and nights of hard work, and performed a series of flawless demonstration runs to showcase its capabilities.

The evening was rounded off with tacos and dessert. All homemade by the team!

A heartfelt thank-you to all our sponsors, friends, and families. Your support made this possible!

Last Saturday, Swissloop took on the SOLA Stafette! 🏃‍♂️💨

Our 14-runner team covered a total of 113km and tackled 2600m of elevation across the greater Zurich area. Each of the 14 stages ranged from 3.7 to 14 km — and together, we conquered them all. 💪🔥

Once again, this proved that what seems impossible alone becomes possible as a team. 🚀

Meet Katharina Hirschbach, our booster engineer – also known as Kathamaran in Swissloop. Fun fact: she somehow can’t finish a single meal without spilling something. When she’s not working on the pod, she loves skiing down a mountain. Her favorite snack? Grapes. Best Swissloop moment so far? Grabbing that much-needed morning coffee in the Chuchichästli every single day. And her favorite coding song is Champagne Coast by Blood Orange. 🍇🎿☕

Meet Tim Limacher, our lower pressure cabin structural integrity mechanical engineer – also known as Limi or also, Cabin Crew. Fun fact: he’s a DJ at ETH parties and once hiked 120 km in 21 hours. When he’s not working on the pod, he’s behind the decks mixing tracks for the next ETH party. His go-to food? Pizza, of course. His best Swissloop moment so far? The time he unexpectedly beat Brian (the coach) in ping-pong on his first try. And his favorite song while designing the structures: Pizza by Martin Garrix. 🍕🎶

Meet Elias Attallah, our upper pressure cabin structural integrity mechanical engineer – also known as Elibär or Cabin Crew. Fun fact: he once got flashed by a speed camera while biking in a 50 km/h zone… and somehow, he generally gets pulled over a lot. When he’s not working on the pod, he loves to play football or send reels to Clara. His favorite dessert? Amarena cherries with vanilla yogurt. His best Swissloop moment so far? Budgetmaximierungsoptimierung in Crans Montana – for beer with Tanner. And his favorite simulation-setup song: Tommi by AnnenMayKantereit. 🚴‍♂️🍒🍺

Meet Gregor Fust, our power electronics engineer – or as some call him, Roger. Fun fact: he holds the record for the most nights spent in the hangar for Swissloop 2025. When he’s not working on the pod, he likes to go jogging. His go-to snack? Honigreiswaffeln from Alnatura. His best Swissloop moment so far? Flashing the new FPGA control board via USB-C. And right now, you’re listening to his favorite debugging song: Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles. 🍓🎶

Meet Yannik Trüssel, our levitation engineer – also known as ✨horizontally static man✨ or just Trüssel. Fun fact: he’s actually a firefighter! When he’s not working on the pod, he’s probably doing some kind of sport - whether it’s running marathons, hitting the gym, playing handball, windsurfing, skiing, snowboarding, or cycling. His favorite treat? Linzertorte. His best Swissloop moment so far? When the levitation coils finally arrived. And his favorite song while writing the controls-: Kiruna by Nora Van Elken. 🚀🔥

21/03/2025

Meet Tanner Greenleaf, our cooling and pressure regulation engineer – or as Swissloopers call him, Tanner-Lee. Fun fact: he claims he’s not half bad at an Australian accent… and he can beatbox. When he’s not working on the pod, he loves being out on his mountain bike. His favorite dessert? Concorde cake. His best Swissloop moment so far? When Brian (the coach) finally approved his PCB. And his favorite CAD-designing song: Kingdom of Darkness by Sutura. 🎶🚴‍♂️
