There are encounters that last only a single day, sometimes just a few hours… and yet they leave a mark on an entire lifetime.
Faces crossed almost by chance, voices heard only once, glances that touch the soul with an intensity that time itself cannot erase.
Then comes the separation.
Brutal. Unexpected. Final, sometimes.
And life goes on nonetheless, carrying that strange silent pain: the thought that we may never see that person again before leaving this earth ourselves.
No proper goodbye. No explanation. No final embrace. Only the emptiness left behind by a presence that has become a memory.
The most painful thing is not always the length of a relationship, but the depth of what it awakened within us. Some people stay beside us for years without truly touching us, while others, in just a single day, turn an entire inner world upside down.
So we move forward with regrets hidden behind the routines of everyday life. Sometimes we wonder what life would have been like if that encounter had lasted longer. We imagine conversations never had, moments never lived, paths that will never cross again.
And despite the years, sometimes all it takes is a song, a scent, a place, or a silence for that memory to strike the heart just like the very first day.
That is the pain of fleeting encounters:
they disappear with time, but never completely from the soul.
And you… would you accept that we meet only today and never see each other again?
