In 2022, Roland Fomundam , visionary CEO of GreenHouse Ventures embarked on a mission to uncover Cameroon’s untapped agricultural potential. During his exploration of the East region, he encountered vast stretches of abandoned mining fields in Batouri, Colomine and Betare Oya, a grim reminder of the environmental degradation left behind by years of unregulated mining.
But Roland, always solution-driven, saw opportunity where others saw waste. Inspired to bring life back to these forgotten lands, he envisioned a comprehensive project aimed at restoring these degraded sites. His vision? To rehabilitate and transform abandoned mines into thriving agricultural lands and sustainable ecosystems.
Roland’s journey led him to the National Mining Corporation Société Nationale des Mines du Cameroun (SONAMINE), the key regulator in the mining sector. They were equally inspired by this vision, and from this partnership, the Moonlight Mining & Restoration Company (MMR) was born—a private-public venture dedicated to the rehabilitation of Cameroon’s abandoned mines.
MMR is now leading a revolutionary effort, not just to restore the environment, but to create new economic opportunities for communities. Through innovative projects like greenhouse agriculture, renewable energy, and eco-tourism, we’re turning degraded lands into productive spaces for the future!
