Why Size and Tensile Strength Alone Aren’t Enough When Selecting Cable Ties for EV Battery Packs?
Inside EV battery packs, cable harnesses are commonly routed around cell modules, BMS battery management systems, sensor wires, and high-voltage connection areas. The internal battery pack environment may remain around 85°C–125°C for extended periods, while cable harnesses and fastening components may also face vibration, installation stress, and limited routing space.
If the material is not suitable for the actual application environment, general-grade PA66 cable ties may experience thermal aging, embrittlement, or creep. Over time, this can reduce holding force and increase the risk of cable movement, abrasion, or future maintenance issues.
For different application areas such as EV battery packs, high-voltage cable harnesses, chassis wiring, and exterior cable routing, automotive cable ties need to balance lightweight design, high holding force, and long-term stability. They may also need to support larger bundle diameters, longer lengths, or special routing requirements.
Giantlok provides a range of cable management products for these applications:
✅ Flame-retardant nylon cable ties: Made with heat-stabilized nylon material and compliant with UL 94 V-0 flame-retardant rating, with self-extinguishing properties. Suitable for automotive wiring, general electronic component fastening, and medium- to high-temperature application environments.
✅ Heat-resistant nylon cable ties: Suitable for high-voltage cable harnesses, powertrain areas, or high-temperature zones. Heat resistance above 120°C can be evaluated based on actual application requirements to support long-term fastening stability.
✅ Tefzel/ETFE cable ties: Suitable for applications involving temperature variation, chemical exposure, or material cleanliness requirements.
✅ UV-resistant / weather-resistant cable ties: Suitable for chassis wiring, exterior cable routing, and long-term outdoor environments. They can support environmental challenges such as temperature cycling, salt spray, and UV exposure.
✅ Steel barb cable ties: Can be evaluated for high-vibration applications or cable harness fastening that requires higher fastening stability.
✅ Cable tie mounts, clips, and cable protection parts: Help position, secure, guide, and protect cable harnesses according to different installation areas.
For EV battery packs, high-voltage cable harnesses, chassis wiring, and exterior cable routing, material selection should not rely on a single specification. It should be based on the actual application environment and the right cable fastening and cable management solution.
