💡 FPI's Solution for Steelmaking Processes
To address the challenge of gas detection in steelmaking, FPI has developed a dedicated solution based on its Laser Gas Analyzer (LGA), enabling real-time, precise monitoring of CO and O₂. This helps steel enterprises reduce operating costs and optimize production processes.
Steelmaking mainly involves converting molten iron into steel using a basic oxygen furnace (BOF), or melting scrap steel and direct reduced iron in an electric arc furnace (EAF). Whether converter gas is recovered or flared (when CO concentration is low) depends on the measured concentrations of CO and O₂. Optimizing the BOF or EAF process also requires monitoring the composition of exhaust gas after secondary combustion.
Traditional paramagnetic analyzers used for converter gas recovery are limited by their sampling systems, resulting in slower response times. This time lag leads to wasted fuel resources—a challenge that FPI's solution directly addresses.
✔️ The high-speed response of the LGA helps raise BOF gas recovery rate by 3-5%.
✔️ The maintenance-free of the LGA itself means no interference to the recovery process, an additional benefit for higher recovery rate and lower operation cost.
✔️ The monitored data can be used as input into models of the BOF or EAF process which can help to improve understanding and to optimize the process.
