1.The Bowl Liner (Concave) and the Mantle (Crushing Wall) of a Cone Crusher
① Bowl liner (also known as the concave): It is mounted on the stationary frame (i.e., the bowl or stationary cone). During operation, it remains static. Its primary function is to serve as the fixed crushing wall, providing a solid supporting surface against which the material is crushed.
② Mantle (also known as the crushing wall): It is mounted on the moving cone (head assembly). During operation, it performs a gyratory (pendulum) motion. As the core component that generates the crushing force, it periodically moves toward and away from the bowl liner, subjecting the ore trapped between them to intense compression and attrition.
2. What is their relationship?
In simple terms, the "bowl liner" and the "concave" are the same component, just as the "mantle" and the "crushing wall" are the same component. They form a matched pair that together constitutes the crushing chamber of the cone crusher.
3. What are their functions?
① Protecting the cone bodies: They act as consumable "wear plates" that are in direct contact with the ore. When worn out, only the liners need to be replaced instead of the expensive stationary bowl and moving cone assemblies, which significantly reduces maintenance costs.
② Crushing the material: Their coordinated action is the key to achieving interparticle crushing (layer compression). The mantle performs a gyratory motion, periodically approaching and receding from the fixed bowl liner. The ore enters the gap between them from the top and, during this process, is continuously subjected to compression, impact, and attrition until it is ultimately fractured into smaller particles.
