Standard Compliance:
Post-Project Review of a LEED Gold-Certified Factory in Vietnam: A Complete Guide to Green Steel Structure Technology and Southeast Asian Standard Compliance.
Technical Details + Compliance Basis:
We have just completed the 18,000 m² electronic factory project in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, which has been awarded the LEED v4 Gold certification. The project achieved a core breakthrough in green steel structure technology adapted to hot and humid climates. We are sharing the practical key points across 3 core phases, with full compliance to standards including Vietnam’s CR certification and Malaysia’s CIDB regulations:
【Design Phase: Dual Compliance with Green Building & Disaster Resistance Requirements】
Structural Selection: Adopted cold-formed thin-walled steel framing (compliant with QCVN 16:2019/BXD), reducing weight by 25% compared to traditional steel structures. Integrated a dual-cycle anti-condensation system, with the wall thermal conductivity coefficient reaching 0.032 W/(m·K)—surpassing the local standard of 0.035 W/(m·K).
Low-Carbon Design: Utilized the Singapore BCA Green Mark 2021 carbon accounting tool. Selected low-carbon steel with a 60% recycling rate, and adopted end-plate bolted connections for joints, cutting on-site welding carbon emissions by 30%.
Disaster Resistance Adaptation: Designed typhoon-resistant joints in accordance with Indonesia’s SNI 1726 standard, capable of withstanding wind speeds of 160 km/h. Adopted a rigid fixed + sliding reserved structure for column bases to meet the Seismic Zone 4 requirements.
【Production Phase: Dual Control of Anti-Corrosion & Waste Reduction】
Tropical Anti-Corrosion Process: Implemented the Tropical Shield System—hot-rolled steel components first undergo hot-dip galvanizing (zinc coating ≥ 350 g/m²), followed by nano-ceramic coating application. The system achieved a 3,000-hour salt spray test rating, and can be upgraded to C5 anti-corrosion class for coastal projects.
Circular Production: Drawing on the experience of Wistron’s Vietnam factory, adopted nesting optimization software for steel cutting, increasing the leftover material recovery rate to 92%. Welding waste is recycled by certified organizations, meeting the UL 2799 zero-landfill requirements.
Certification Compliance: All components are accompanied by third-party inspection reports (including SS EN 1090 welding certification and coating adhesion tests), fully complying with the import requirements of Malaysia’s CIDB.
【Installation Phase: Dual Implementation of Energy Conservation & High Efficiency】
Photovoltaic Integration: The roof adopted a composite system of color steel plates + photovoltaic modules (JA Solar 182mm modules), with a bracket spacing of 1.8m tailored to tropical solar angles. The annual power generation reaches 520,000 kWh, accounting for 12% of the total power consumption with green electricity.
Rapid Construction: The modular prefabrication rate reached 85%. Hydraulic double-wing components can be deployed in only 10 minutes, and the on-site installation was completed in 42 days—shortening the construction period by 28% compared to traditional methods.
Moisture-Proof Details: Installed 20mm moisture-proof gaskets between column bases and the ground, and applied Protectosil® waterproof agent to all bolted connections, effectively solving the problem of moisture condensation and corrosion during the rainy season.
Rainwater Harvesting System: The roof was designed with a 3% slope, equipped with stainless steel gutters compliant with SS 555 standard, achieving an annual water saving of 1,800 m³.
Intelligent Energy Consumption Monitoring: Pre-installed IoT sensors to monitor the temperature and humidity of steel structures in real time, with data synchronized to the BCA Energy Platform.
