Based on the testing requirements of EN 1364-1:2015 and EN 1634-1:2014, Pylontech installed the sample structural assemblies at the furnace opening for fire-resistance evaluation.

These images show the door-opening test results of the Pylontechโ€™s container series products. The products have passed the EN 1634-1 standard 132-minute fire resistance test, with both integrity and insulation performance meeting the required standards. At 132 minutes, the maximum temperature rise on the door was only 55ยฐC, which is far below the standard limit of 180ยฐC.

Based on the dual fire-resistance standards EN 1364-1:2015 (non-load-bearing components) and EN 1634-1:2014(doors, shutters, and complete partition assemblies), Pylontech has developed a layered fire-protection architecture for critical enclosure structures.

Safety remains the fundamental baseline of energy storage systems. An all-scenario defense framework has been established from cell level to system level, integrating both physical and chemical protection mechanisms.

Whether exposed to external open flames or internal thermal-runaway fires, energy storage systems face extreme conditions involving peak temperatures of 1100โ€“1300ยฐC and sustained combustion for 20โ€“60 minutes.

Conventional structural materials such as standard carbon steel lose approximately 80% of their yield strength above 600ยฐC, making it difficult to maintain structural integrity. Although high-temperature-resistant materials can temporarily withstand flames exceeding 1000ยฐC, they often fail to simultaneously satisfy the high structural strength, IP67/IP68 airtightness, and long-term mechanical durability required for energy storage products.

Unexpected fires in surrounding environments may trigger thermal runaway in energy storage systems, potentially resulting in severe environmental pollution, economic losses, and even threats to human life.

In July 2021, a liquid coolant leak triggered thermal runaway at the 300 MW/450 MWh Victorian big battery project in Australia, causing a fire during construction. The incident originated from a single 3 MWh energy storage unit and spread to neighboring units, destroying two units in total. The event exposed limitations in existing fire testing standards, as UL 9540A burn tests consider wind speeds up to 12 mph, while actual site wind speeds reached nearly 35 mph, accelerating fire spreadยน.

Taking a Pylontechโ€™s energy storage cabinet deployed in a coastal project as an example, its enclosure adopted a protection system consisting of โ€œgalvanized or hot-rolled sheet + epoxy primer coating + polyester top coating.โ€ The system was tested in accordance with IEC 60068-2-11-2021 Salt Spray Test (Ka), IEC 60068-2-52-2017 Cyclic Corrosion Test (Kb), ISO 4892-2, and ISO 2812-2. The successful test results demonstrate that the enclosure protection system provides reliable corrosion resistance for long-term operation in coastal environments.
