IEC Students in Provincial Int'l Culture Contest

Recently, IEC students actively participated in the “Study in Liaoning, Enjoy in Liaoning, Integrate into Liaoning, Understand China” Cultural Style Competition for International Students in Liaoning Province’s Universities. This competition, aimed at promoting cross-cultural communication and a deeper understanding of Liaoning’s culture, history, and development, attracted a large number of international students from various universities in the province. IEC students joined the photography category of this competition, warmly demonstrating cultural integration and their affection for SAU and Liaoning.Among the competition entries, a group of international students dressed in white Zhongshan suits stands out as the most eye-catching. They stand beside large-scale aircraft, with one of them holding a small aircraft model. They have smiles brightening their faces and eyes sparkling with enthusiasm and curiosity. They seem to be envisioning themselves soaring through the boundless skies in the future. A gesture towards the aircraft and model shows their eagerness for aerospace exploration. At this moment, their hearts brim with dreams. They are on the verge of soaring into an aerospace future, bridging cultures and fueling global aerospace progress.

Soaring High: Creating Aircraft for SAUThe choice of Zhongshan suits shows their respect for Chinese culture, while the aircraft model symbolizes their aerospace passion and connection to Shenyang Aerospace University and Liaoning’s development. These photos vividly illustrate the competition’s theme, capturing students’ cultural integration and academic pursuits as they “study, enjoy, and integrate” in Liaoning. This outstanding performance in the photography category sets the stage for exploring the rich diversity of all the entries in the competition.

Innovation Silk Road Forum

IEC recently organized a series of hands-on CAD training sessions followed by an exciting competition, providing students with valuable technical skills and practical experience. This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications, setting the stage for students to showcase their capabilities in the subsequent competition. The training program consisted of two comprehensive sessions by peer mentoring from March 29 to April 13. Two expert trainers —JUBAID MAYIN UDDIN and MUSA PETHUEL BIGYEN, two postgraduates of IEC, introduced participants to fundamental CAD concepts and tools, then guided them through professional techniques including 3D/2D view generation and proper file submission formats. During the training, the classroom became a hub of learning, where the trainers’ expertise was complemented by an interactive teaching approach.

Armed with the knowledge and skills gained from the training, the participants were well-prepared to take on the challenges of the upcoming competition. Building on the training’s success, the participants joined the Advanced Graphical Technology and Product Information Modeling Innovation Competition on April 19, where skilled students demonstrated their newly acquired abilities in a challenging three-hour session. The event highlighted their technical proficiency and creative problem-solving skills.

Beyond the immediate outcomes of the training and competition, this endeavor reflects IEC’s broader educational philosophy. This series of CAD training and competition is not merely an event for students to acquire technical skills. It represents IEC’s unwavering commitment to cultivating well-rounded talents in the digital age. By providing such platforms, IEC not only equips students with practical abilities but also instills in them the spirit of innovation and the courage to explore.

Selecting Excellent Dormitories, Building a Tidy Home—The IEC’s Dormitory Inspection and Selection Activity
Before the May Day Holiday, IEC conducted a meticulous dormitory inspection. Staff from the Student Administration Office and the Apartment Office collaborated to conduct a thorough evaluation of the dormitories. The primary objectives were to comprehensively assess cleanliness and safety conditions and identify outstanding dormitories.

The inspection team meticulously examined each dormitory. They scored the rooms according to specific criteria, covering aspects such as living area tidiness, proper item storage, electrical equipment functionality, and fire-prevention measures.

Several dormitories distinguished themselves with their excellence. These exemplary rooms were not only spotlessly clean, free of dust and clutter, but also featured an orderly layout. Personal belongings were neatly arranged, creating a comfortable and visually appealing living environment.

This inspection was no ordinary task. It aimed to instill in students the importance of maintaining a clean and safe living space. A tidy and secure dormitory not only safeguards students’ physical and mental health but also fosters a positive and harmonious atmosphere, cultivating good habits and a sense of responsibility essential for their personal and academic growth.
Overall, the initiative reflects IEC’s commitment to students’ well-being and holistic development. Going forward, it is expected that such efforts will encourage students to prioritize dormitory upkeep, contributing to the creation of an even better dormitory community.

Shenyang Aerospace University’s International Students Experience Intangible Cultural Heritage Sugar Painting
On April 24, 2025, a unique intangible cultural heritage experience event was held in Friendship Villa 812. Nearly thirty international students from Burkina Faso, Congo, Kenya, Gabon, and other countries gathered together to create sugar paintings under the guidance of artisan Ms. Li, experiencing the unique charm of this traditional Chinese handicraft.

The event began with Ms. Li demonstrating the sugar painting process with her masterful skills. Holding a copper spoon and using melted sugar syrup as "ink," she swiftly sketched vivid zodiac animals and traditional auspicious patterns on a marble slab. The international students marveled at the artistry, with many raising their phones to capture the magical process.

One student remarked, "Sugar painting is both art and magic! I never thought simple syrup could turn into such exquisite designs. Chinese folk wisdom is truly impressive."

Under Ms. Li’s guidance, the students tried their hands at boiling sugar, controlling the temperature, and maneuvering the spoon to experience the entire sugar painting process. Though their techniques were unpolished, everyone was enthusiastic, attempting to depict dragons, phoenixes, Nezha, Ao Bing, and other traditional motifs.

The event was filled with laughter and joy as the students not only learned about sugar painting techniques but also gained insight into its cultural significance. Ms. Li explained that sugar painting was once a common folk art during temple fairs and festivals, carrying auspicious and joyful symbolism.

A Chinese language teacher noted, "This event allowed international students to engage closely with China’s intangible cultural heritage, deepening their understanding of Chinese culture while fostering cross-cultural exchange. We will organize more such activities in the future to keep traditional culture alive and share it with the world."

After the event, the students proudly displayed their creations. This sugar painting experience not only allowed them to appreciate the charm of Chinese traditional culture but also injected new vitality into the preservation and dissemination of intangible heritage. Against the backdrop of globalization, this ancient art is connecting the world in new ways, building bridges of friendship between China and other countries.
