A Day on a Lithium-Ion Equipment Line: Planetary Reducer in Real Use

On a lithium-ion new energy equipment line, a planetary reducer is a compact drive component between the servo motor and the moving axis. The practical question is not only ratio and torque, but whether the reducer suits the machine frame and the checks operators can make during a shift.

ATG's planetary reducer is applicable to lithium-ion new energy equipment. It can be installed in any orientation, has an IP65 housing, runs at ≤65 dB noise, delivers full-load efficiency above 92%, and operates from -20°C to +90°C. Synthetic grease lubrication is specified, and average lifespan is 20,000 hours.

For operators, the checks are straightforward: inspect the housing and seals for damage that could compromise IP65, listen for noise above the ≤65 dB level, and watch for temperature rise outside the stated range. The range is also CE certified to Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

Precision gear reducers: match backlash to the axis

In servo-driven equipment, a precision gear reducer is often specified for one practical job: convert high-speed motor input into controlled torque and repeatable positioning.

For a robot joint or packaging axis, the buying decision is not only torque output. It is how much backlash the motion can tolerate, whether a single-stage or two-stage unit fits the required ratio and space, and whether the selected frame size suits the duty cycle.

ATG precision planetary reducers include single-stage models PGF, PGE and PGC, plus two-stage models PGH, PEH, PCH, PGHR, PGFR, PEHR, PCHR, PGER and PGCR. Listed backlash is 3–15 arcmin depending on configuration, so the datasheet needs to be matched to the axis, not judged by torque alone.

A useful starting point: load, ratio, allowable backlash, mounting space and duty cycle.
