Many new drone operators believe that flying closer to the crop will automatically improve spray coverage. In reality, flying too low can create excessive downwash, causing leaves to move violently and preventing droplets from settling evenly on the target surface. It may also increase the risk of rotor contact with tall crops or uneven terrain. The ideal flight height depends on crop type, canopy density, nozzle configuration, and weather conditions. Testing different heights under safe conditions and observing the results can help determine the most effective operating altitude. Precision spraying is achieved through balance, not simply by flying lower. Understanding how airflow interacts with crops allows operators to improve coverage while reducing chemical waste.
