Emerging solutions in the AECO industry (Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operation) such as digital twins, robotics, artificial intelligence, predictive evaluation, among others, make up what we know today as the technological ecosystem of the sector and are constantly promoted as necessary elements to transcend towards digitization, virtualization and process automation.

However, your expertise does not fully guarantee that you will get good results. The quality of the final product depends to a great extent on the flow of data that is entered as a processing input.

The well-known concept of “Garbage in, garbage out” in the lexicon of computer science clearly illustrates this argument. In a nutshell it says that: The “Output” is determined by the “Input”; If the information provided initially is not adequate, the final result will not be either.

In this order of ideas “Garbage” can mean low quality or irrelevant information. In AEC Data Works we are aware of how important the collection and use of good data is, which is why in all our projects we take the necessary measures to mitigate the related risks.

Soluciones emergentes en la industria AECO (Arquitectura, Ingeniería, Construcción y Operación) como gemelos digitales, robótica, inteligencia artificial, evaluación predictiva, entre otras, conforman lo que conocemos hoy en día como el ecosistema tecnológico del sector y permanentemente se promocionan como elementos necesarios para trascender hacia la digitalización, virtualización y automatización de procesos.

Sin embargo, su dominio no garantiza totalmente la obtención de buenos resultados. La calidad del producto final depende en gran medida del flujo de datos que se ingresan como insumo de procesamiento.

El concepto de “Garbage in, garbage out” muy reconocido en el léxico de la ciencia informática ilustra claramente este argumento. En pocas palabras dice que: El “Output” está determinado por el “Input”; si la información suministrada inicialmente no es la adecuada, el resultado final tampoco lo será.

En este orden de ideas “Garbage” puede significar información de baja calidad o irrelevante. En AEC Data Works somos conscientes de lo importante que es la recolección y el uso de buenos datos, es por esto que en todos nuestros proyectos tomamos las medidas necesarias para mitigar los riesgos relacionados.

It is no secret that the economic sectors with the highest technology adoption have gradually increased their productivity in recent years, and that digital transformation has the potential to generate significant changes in the productive structure.

The construction sector, although one of the furthest behind in the implementation of even basic technologies, is no stranger to this trend. A particular case that demonstrates this is the use of LIDAR - Light Detection And Ranging technology (recently incorporated into mobile phones such as the iPhone 12/13 Pro, Pro Max, and iPad Pro 2020/21), with which it is possible to scan any space and generate clouds of millions of points that faithfully describe their geometry. This information is easily integrated into various workflows in which it can be used as input to carry out designs, inspections, record models, among many others.

This and other technologies such as unmanned aerial platforms (RPAS - Remotely Piloted Aircraft System) and the management of multidisciplinary models integrated in design and construction projects (VDC - Virtual Design & Construction) are becoming more relevant in the field and it is It is inevitable to think of digital transformation as an essential requirement to remain competitive in an industry that is moving faster and faster.

Without a doubt, it is foreseeable that 3D modeling and digitization of information through a versatile and accessible system will be crucial for the pace of work that will accelerate in the future.

No es un secreto que los sectores económicos con mayor adopción tecnológica han incrementado gradualmente su productividad en los últimos años, y que la transformación digital tiene el potencial de generar cambios significativos en la estructura productiva.

El sector de la construcción, aunque es uno de los más rezagados en la implementación incluso de tecnologías básicas, no es ajeno a esta tendencia. Un caso particular que lo demuestra es el uso de tecnología LIDAR - Light Detección And Ranging (Recientemente incorporada en móviles como el iPhone 12/13 Pro, Pro Max, y iPad Pro 2020/21), con la que es posible escanear cualquier espacio y generar nubes de millones de puntos que describen fielmente su geometría. Esta información se integra fácilmente a diversos flujos de trabajo en los que puede ser utilizada como insumo para realizar diseños, inspecciones, modelos record entre muchos otros.

Esta y otras tecnologías como lo son las plataformas aéreas no tripuladas (RPAS - Remotely Piloted Aircraft System) y la gestión de modelos multidisciplinarios integrados en proyectos de diseño y construcción (VDC – Virtual Design & Construction) están adquiriendo mayor relevancia en el medio y es inevitable pensar en la transformación digital como un requisito indispensable para seguir siendo competitivo en una industria que avanza cada vez más rápido.

Sin lugar a dudas, es previsible que el modelado 3D y la digitalización de la información a través de un sistema versátil y accesible será crucial para el ritmo de trabajo que acelerará en un futuro.
