HELADO HOUSE is conceived as a porous living environment — naturally ventilated, light-filled, and in constant dialogue with its surroundings. Spaces unfold with ease, allowing air, sound, and vegetation to move freely through the home, dissolving the boundary between inside and out.

Balancing comfort with climate intelligence, the design embraces passive strategies while offering moments of refuge and intimacy. The result is a dwelling that feels both grounded and fluid — a quiet sanctuary shaped by nature rather than imposed upon it.

Due to the deteriorated condition of the former lifeguard station at Playa Cocles, Hone Creek Studio joined a local initiative to design and build a new structure.

With the participation of concerned and conscious locals, materials and labor were contributed to bring the project to life—benefiting the community as well as supporting the efforts of the Red Cross and the ICT.

Architecture is also a form of social service. Projects like this, carried out ad honorem, give meaning to our practice. The satisfaction of contributing spatial solutions to our community is both an honor and a responsibility as construction professionals. Although this is a modest project, our hope is that through its use, many lives will continue to be protected and that Cocles remains a safe place.

Material honesty and restraint guide the design, allowing the architecture to remain quiet yet essential — a subtle landmark shaped by necessity and place.
