BUMAT collaborated with artist Es Devlin and Faena Art on a project for Miami Art Week 2025.
The installation “Library of Us” featured a slowly rotating triangular bookshelf, set within a shallow reflecting pool and surrounded by two concentric reading tables – one stationary, one revolving with the sculpture. Standing 6 meters tall and stretching 16.5 meters long, housing 2,500 books. The sculpture pointed symbolically toward both the Atlantic Ocean and inland Miami, acting like a sundial and compass in one. As the triangular bookshelf turned, the inner readers gently rotated with it – encountering new books, perspectives, and each other.
BUMAT provided the kinetic foundation for this unique concept:
A 22-meter weather-resistant turntable, engineered for outdoor use and installed directly on sand. With a load capacity of 30 metric tons, the surface of the turntable was covered with a shallow layer of water, creating a reflective stage for the sculpture and its moving readers.
This collaboration between art and engineering brought movement to meaning – and turned Miami Beach into a site of reflection, connection, and quiet choreography.
