Putting communication to the test
Secure communication technologies become more robust when their limits are examined under realistic conditions. 🕵️
During a quantum hackathon, around 20 international participants joined experts from Fraunhofer IOF and Fraunhofer ISI to explore potential vulnerabilities in quantum communication systems.🌐
About 20 participants with diverse professional and national backgrounds—from Poland, Romania, China, India, Egypt, and Germany—took on the role of the hacker Eve. They attempted to intercept the quantum signal between two communication partners—Bob and Alice—and extract the transmitted information.
The aim was not only to test existing technologies, but also to develop a practical understanding of how quantum-secure communication works and where future attacks could arise.🔐
Findings from such tests can help researchers identify weaknesses early and improve the design of future systems.
The hackathon was organized as part of the O-PEN project, funded by BMFTR 🤝
