For World Ocean Day, our Science Facts spotlight goes below the surface: some of the most iconic tools in cell biology started with marine organisms.

GFP from jellyfish helped researchers make proteins and cells visible. 🧫

Coral-derived red fluorescent proteins expanded the color palette for multicolor imaging — including descendants such as mCherry. 🍒

A small portfolio side note: Cherry fluorescence is also used in LEXSY vectors for expression monitoring.
