DESMI selected by Irving Shipbuilding for River-class Destroyer program

The River-class Destroyer design is based on the United Kingdom’s Type 26 Global Combat Ship, for which DESMI has been a strategic supplier since the program’s inception 💪

The River-class Destroyer will be a future class of up to 15 warships for the Royal Canadian Navy, with first delivery expected in the early 2030s.

Under this contract, DESMI will supply the Whole Ship Pumps Package and Hot Fresh Water Modules for Batch 1 (three ships) 🚢

The contract reflects DESMI’s continued contribution to the Global Combat Ship platform, following earlier supply awards for the Hunter Class Frigate program in Australia.

A pump replacement should do more than fit the old duty point.

It should improve how the system performs in real operation.

These two NSLH 350 centrifugal pumps are being prepared for delivery to HOFOR’s Amagerværket, where district heating production supports large parts of the Copenhagen area.

The goal is not just to install new pumps.

It is to improve the pump system.

That means looking at:
⚙️ Hydraulic performance
⚡ Efficiency across the operating range
🎯 Flow control when demand changes
📉 Harmonic impact on the electrical installation

The pumps are configured for operation with low-harmonic frequency converters, so flow can be adjusted to the actual demand instead of being controlled mainly by throttling or fixed-speed operation.

That is an important difference.

In a district heating application, the system will not sit at one duty point all year.

Flow changes.
Pressure conditions change.
Load changes.

So the interesting question is not only whether the new pumps can meet the required capacity.

It is how they perform across the curve.

That is where a replacement project can create real value.

Not just by replacing what is there, but by improving efficiency, controllability, and system behavior at the same time.

For our AquaShield UV units, DESMI has developed a dedicated software platform designed to make advanced UV treatment simpler to commission, easier to operate and ready for integration into customers’ own site control systems.

This development is a strong example of what our engineering team does best: turning deep technical experience into practical, customer-focused solutions. Built on knowledge from BWMS control systems and adapted specifically for aquaculture, the AquaShield UV Control Software offers a clearer HMI, fewer steps for operators and key treatment data available at a glance.

The system continuously manages UV dose, flow, and lamp power, depending on the Waters UV-Transmission and the required dose, while helping ensure that treatment remains within the required compliance framework.

A big recognition to our engineers, whose expertise, curiosity and dedication made this software possible. This is innovation created by people who understand both the technology and the customers who rely on it every day👏

They did it again! 🏆

Aalborg Håndbold have once again been crowned Danish Champions — for the third time in a row.

What an incredible achievement by the team, the staff, and everyone around the club. We are proud to be a sponsor and to support a team that continues to set the standard at the very top of Danish handball.

Ammonia is gaining attention as a future fuel.

But turning that potential into working systems requires more than ambition.

It requires equipment that can support demanding media, compact layouts, and reliable operation from day one.

In a recent project, our ESL32 magnetic drive pumps were selected for an ammonia recovery device developed by Sunrui Marine Environment Engineering Co., Ltd.

The pumps became part of a compact skid-mounted solution designed to support safe and efficient ammonia handling.

Large pumps, control systems, and complex process installations are easy to notice.

The people connecting those pieces in practice are often less visible 👀

These photos show our Superintendent, Silas, during a visit to an aquaculture site, working hands-on with our centrifugal pumps, UV water treatment equipment, and control systems.

In modern aquaculture, these technologies are closely connected.

🐟 UV systems support water treatment and pathogen control.
🐟 Controls help the installation operate as intended.

Together, they form part of the infrastructure behind healthy and efficient fish production.

That is where Silas comes in.
