"To help with perspective, such high temperatures would completely melt an automobile in less than a minute," said James Kennett, a UC Santa Barbara emeritus professor of geology.

Such intensity, he added, could only have resulted from an extremely violent, high-energy, high-velocity phenomenon, something on the order of a cosmic impact.

Based on materials collected before the site was flooded, Kennett and his colleagues contend Abu Hureyra is the first site to document the direct effects of a fragmented comet on a human settlement.

Before the Taqba Dam impounded the Euphrates River in northern Syria in the 1970s, an archaeological site named Abu Hureyra bore witness to the moment ancient nomadic people first settled down and started cultivating crops. A large mound marks the settlement, which now lies under Lake Assad.

Space Force sadly won’t save anything in case of an Asteroid emergency:

"It's not about putting military service members in space," one expert said. The new branch will basically reorganize what the military does in space and elevate it to a single chain of command.

No, the orbit of this asteroid is NOT even close to dangerous! Please save the dramatic headlines for when it truly matters - because sooner or later, it will, and we are still basically defenseless...

AN ASTEROID big enough to end civilisation should it ever hit will approach our planet in April, NASA's asteroid trackers have found.

Picture > 1000 words... and yes, the EADP HAIV solution would with great probability be able to destroy a 1950DA-sized asteroid alone, and Castalia in tandem with down to a few weeks notice.

Anything bigger than 1.5 km and on a collision course will be spotted years in advance so is relatively easy to deflect away from the Earth's orbit.

3D animator Alvaro Gracia Montoya of Metaball Studios created a fascinating, if not slightly terrifying, animation that visually compares the size of

Nope, happily not even close 🤗 Should the doomsday warning some day be true (and statistically it will be, sooner or later), we are sadly still rather defenceless...

A number of doomsday warnings have come and gone over the years.

“[The asteroid] produced an explosion equivalent to 100 trillion tons of TNT, roughly seven billion times as powerful as the Hiroshima bomb.”

“The fossil data, where it is available, reveals that nothing larger than a raccoon survived. Such small-bodied species were more likely to survive because they lived in greater numbers, ate less, and could reproduce and adapt faster.”

Most of us know that a huge asteroid hit Earth 66 million years ago, but the aftermath of the impact is far more mysterious

Still no effective defence... sooner or later we will be hit hard! This was first discovered when 1/5th between Earth and the moon.

Yet the relatively low cost to reduce the risk to practically zero is continuously ignored, in favor of ineffective anti-terror spending ... while forgetting that asteroids are a true terror, that CAN HIT ANYONE AT ANY TIME.

Where is the billionaire who will fight for this?

“People are only sort of realizing what happened pretty much after it’s already flung past us,” one astronomer said.
