Harmonics Risk: A Growing Industrial & Grid Challenge

As industrial facilities and renewable energy integration increase, harmonics have become a critical risk to power quality, asset reliability, and grid compliance.

Harmonics in power systems are mainly generated by renewable energy sources using power electronic converters and by non-linear industrial loads. They increase system losses, cause overheating of transformers and cables, and may lead to maloperation of protection equipment. In transmission networks, harmonic distortion degrades voltage quality and can create resonance conditions. With higher renewable pe*******on, harmonic assessment is now essential to maintain reliability and grid code compliance.

This is why Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) is directing projects and industrial facilities to work with approved companies to ensure studies and mitigation measures meet technical and regulatory standards.

As an EETC-approved consultancy, ADVEC supports clients through harmonic studies, grid code compliance, and practical mitigation solutions—protecting assets while ensuring safe and compliant grid integration.

Harmonics are no longer optional engineering considerations; they are a strategic operational risk.

We are proud to share that UNDP Egypt, the financing and development partner for the Grand Egyptian Museum, has selected us through a competitive tendering process to lead the Grid Impact Study, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Design Validation, and to obtain all necessary Governmental Approvals for the 1 MWp Solar PV Plant powering this monumental landmark.

This clean energy project will make a meaningful contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions, ensuring that the museum — a symbol of Egypt’s timeless civilization — operates with sustainability at its core.

One of ADVEC’s key contributions to Egypt’s renewable energy sector was the successful delivery of a project for SolarizEgypt in El-Gouna.

🌞 Project: 8 MWp – Self-Consumption PV Project in El- Gouna

🛠 Scope of Work:
1. Grid code compliance study including the power flow, short circuit, transient and power quality analysis as Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) requirements

2. implementation of reverse power protection solution including full engineering, installation, testing and commissioning to mitigate any potential flow of power from the PV plant to the transmission network as per EETC requirements
