We conclude our ECT+ One Health thesis spotlight series by featuring the research of Abrisham David Vincent (Australia).

Conducted in collaboration with , his thesis explored the potential of Pleurotus eryngii mycoremediation to restore lead-contaminated soils. The study assessed the human health risks associated with cultivating fruits and vegetables on contaminated land and compared two mycoremediation approaches using inoculated mushroom spawn in cardboard and spent mushroom substrate to reduce lead contamination.

Congratulations to Abrisham on this meaningful contribution to sustainable soil remediation, environmental health, and One Health research. We wish him every success in his future endeavors! 🍄🌱🌍

As we continue showcasing the inspiring research of our graduating ECT+ One Health 5th Cohort students, we are pleased to feature Amalia Rico Rodrigo (Spain).

Conducted in collaboration with the Mediterranean Algae research group, her thesis focused on optimizing the culture density of Ulva ohnoi to improve bioremediation efficiency while preserving biomass quality. Her research investigated how culture density and nutrient availability influence growth, nutrient uptake, biochemical composition, and antioxidant capacity, supporting the sustainable use of macroalgae in environmental applications.

Congratulations to Sara on this valuable contribution to environmental biotechnology and One Health research! 🌿🔬🎓

As we continue highlighting the outstanding research of our graduating ECT+ One Health students, we are pleased to feature Alina Landete Schwers (Argentinian–Belgian).

Conducted at Aarhus Universitet (Denmark), her thesis explores the use of electrochemical oxidation to remove pharmaceuticals, PFAS, and other contaminants of emerging concern from wastewater. As part of the FERTIPAS project, this research contributes to developing innovative remediation strategies for sludge-treated reed bed systems, supporting the production of safer and more sustainable fertilizers.
Congratulations to Alina on this important contribution to environmental chemistry, sustainable wastewater treatment, and One Health research! 🌍💧🔬

As we celebrate the upcoming graduation of our ECT+ One Health Cohort 5, we are proud to showcase the outstanding research carried out throughout their master's journey.

Our first thesis spotlight features Tayse Demetro Tayse Demetro dos Santos (Brazil), whose research investigated the chronic effects of the pharmaceuticals naproxen and venlafaxine on the Mediterranean mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis). Conducted at Ciimar – Universidade do Porto , the study highlights the potential impacts of pharmaceutical pollution on marine ecosystems, seafood safety, and human exposure.

Congratulations to Tayse on this important contribution to environmental contamination and One Health research! 🌍🧪🎓
