The College of Computing (CoC) at Debre Berhan University (DBU) originated from the Information Technology Education Program, which was initially part of the College of Business and Economics when the university was established in 2007 (1999 E.C.).
Historical Timeline and Development
• 2007 (1999 E.C.): The computing program began as a single department under the College of Business and Economics with an initial enrollment of 75 students (18 female and 57 male).
• 2008: The Department of Computer Science was officially launched under the College of Computing to meet national demands for skilled software developers.
• Evolution: Over time, the college expanded from offering a single degree program to its current status as a multi-departmental college supporting thousands of students.
• 2024: The college conducted curriculum review workshops to launch new programs, including an undergraduate Data Science program and advanced studies in artificial intelligence.
Academic Programs and Departments
The college has grown to include four undergraduate departments and two postgraduate programs:
• Undergraduate Departments: Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, and Software Engineering.
• Newer Initiatives: Recent focus includes Data Science and Master's programs in Geomatics Engineering.

The college has seen significant growth in its student population and graduate output:
• Current Enrollment: Approximately 1,243 undergraduate and 159 postgraduate students across regular, weekend, and summer sessions.
• Graduate Output: Since it’s founding, the college has graduated a total of 4,173 undergraduate and 679 postgraduate students.
