The first multi-purpose offshore patrol vessel built for Rajavartiolaitos - Gränsbevakningsväsendet - Finnish Border Guard has been named in today’s naming ceremony at the Uusikaupunki shipyard. The vessel was named Karhu.

The naming ceremony was conducted by the vessel’s godmother, Mrs. Suzanne Innes-Stubb. Karhu is scheduled for delivery during winter 2026.

Meyer Turku CEO Casimir Lindholm stated:
“Our two-vessel project has reached an important milestone with the naming ceremony of the first ship. Karhu is tangible proof of Meyer Turku’s ability to manage shipbuilding projects from start to finish at our partner shipyards, while continuing to meet our high quality standards.”

The order of two multi-purpose offshore patrol vessels is the largest single investment in the history of the Finnish Border Guard. The vessels will operate at sea for around 330 days each year.
