ComSciCon ComSciCon is a series of workshops focused on science communication, organized by graduate students and for graduate students.

There is an annual National Workshop hosted each June, and a growing network of local workshops around the US. ComSciCon attendees meet and interact with professional communicators, build lasting networks with graduate students in all fields of science and engineering from around the country, and write and publish original works.

ComSciCon 2026 also featured a series of side events that brought science communication to life! From Pop Talks where attendees distilled their research into under one minute, to creative showcases and hands-on activities, these events gave participants the opportunity to put their science communication skills into practice, experiment with new formats, and celebrate the many ways science can connect with different audiences!

🎤 Science Slam
Our attendees transformed science into captivating slam poetry performances! It was incredible to watch everyone step outside their comfort zones, embrace the challenge, and bring so much energy and personality to the stage.

🧪 Science Fair
Attendees also explored science communication through a community science fair featuring projects created by local graduate students from université de Bordeaux and Université Bordeaux Montaigne in collaboration with Vincent Jouanneau and Alexandre Licata from Cap Sciences. Working within unique creative constraints, each team developed an original way of sharing scientific concepts, from theatrical performances to other interactive demonstrations!

⚡ Sci Comm Showcase: Flash Talks
Participants took the stage to present their own science communication initiatives through short, engaging flash talks. From innovative outreach programs to creative approaches for making science more accessible, the showcase highlighted the incredible diversity of ideas, experiences, and passion within the science communication community.

🖼️ Sci Comm Showcase: Poster Session
The conversations continued during our poster session, where attendees showcased both their research and science communication projects in a welcoming, collaborative environment. It was a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas, receive feedback, spark new collaborations, and celebrate the many ways science can be shared beyond the lab settings.

Our final day of was all about expanding the impact of sci comm, from engaging with policymakers to inspiring the next generation of scientists. Here are the highlights from Day 4:

✊ PANEL: Science Policy
Science and policy are deeply connected, and today’s panel explored how science communicators can help bridge the gap. Patrick Lemaire, Cédric Brun, and Brendon Davis shared their experiences navigating science policy in different national contexts, offering valuable insights into how policy decisions influence research, funding, and innovation. The session also gave participants the opportunity to develop and refine their own elevator pitches, an essential skill for communicating science to policymakers and other decision-makers!

* This session is supported by ComSciCon’s SEEDS Project, funded by the Kavli Foundation and the Rita Allen Foundation.

🧪 WORKSHOP: K-12
Communicating science to younger audiences takes creativity, curiosity, and a willingness to meet learners where they are. During the K-2 workshop, attendees explored strategies for engaging K–12 students and worked together to design age-appropriate sci comm activities. It was exciting to see so many creative ideas aimed at inspiring curiosity in the next generation of scientists and science communicators!

From learning new storytelling techniques to refining publication-ready sci comm pieces and talking about science with local students, Day 3 of was all about putting sci comm we’ve learned so far into practice. Here’s a look at some of Day 3 highlights!

✍️ WORKSHOP 2: Science Writing
Led by science journalists Aurélie Louchart, Edwyn Guérineau, and Yves Sciama, today’s workshop gave participants practical tools for communicating science through clear, engaging, and accessible writing. Drawing on their experiences in science journalism, they shared tips on finding compelling stories, writing with purpose, and making complex science resonate with readers.

🖼️ PANEL 4: Alternative Media
Science communication comes in many forms. Elisabeth Lambert (accompanied by Ania Allab), Terence Saulnier () and Raphaëlle Bats explored how creative formats from slam poetry to exhibitions and mock trials can help researchers connect with audiences in new and engaging ways. Thank you both for sharing your experiences and inspiring our attendees to think beyond traditional approaches to sci comm!

🎨 CREATE-A-THON
After months of hard work, attendees had the opportunity to connect with peers and experts for review, feedback, and collaborative discussions to refine their publication-ready science communication pieces across a variety of media. We’re incredibly proud of everything they accomplished and can’t wait to see these projects shared with the world!
