Wow. Bosch plans to acquire 100% of the Johnson Controls–Hitachi Air Conditioning joint venture, including Hitachi’s 40% percent stake, and integrate the acquired businesses into the Bosch Home Comfort Group. 😮

Hitachi’s more complex heat pumps are manufactured in Barcelona ES, with less complicated systems assembled in China from the usual Sanhua components. Nice units overall.

It seems the HVAC market is ultra-concentrating. A few megacorporations providing our conditioned survival on a deranged planet. Good or bad? What do you think?

2 300 exhibitors stretching beyond the horizon of 100 000 m² hosting 1 500 CNC machines and even more human-sized tools to invent, mill, bend, weld, glue, bolt and otherwise transform raw materials into something smart and useful. Global Industrie in Paris is a welcome creative counterpoint to the global trend of destruction.

Wow. ABB has acquired Eve, the very expensive “designed in Germany” smart home accessories company founded in 1999.

They had been one of the first to support Matter and Thread to allow for interoperability between Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung… They also sell Eve Core — a complete Bluetooth Low Energy module we can re-use in our film-specific devices and projects.

Finally, a vibrant and crowded Paris Images Production Forum, which combines the Locations Expo with AFC’s (French ASC / IATSE equivalent) Micro-Salon in one place!

I’d say, the first “film pros” event with a pre-Covid vibe. Tons of gear, standing-room only ARRI’s color workflow presentations, most of the French regions and shooting locales’ reps, all buzzing and mingling… It’s been a while. 🤩

Starrett 13MA vs Starrett 10MH-150 vs Johnson Level 1956-1800.

Idelekka’s roots mean several things. One of them is an obsession with measurement and fabrication accuracy. We’ve seen few comparisons of combination / speed squares that remain portable and can fit in tiny spaces, so here you go. 😉

You can’t go wrong with anything by Starrett. Johnson has been bought by Hultafors, so there’s hope for more metric tools.

When steel is reelin’… but the threads are welcome too. 🙂

A quick and light pass of a straight grinder with a TC bit helps prep the surface. Something that would require manual filing only a couple of decades ago.

(200 kg of static load on those threads + dynamic lateral acceleration, so fusion of the nuts was important)
