As a member of SafetyOn, this week we ran several initiatives in recognition of their ‘Stand Up for Safety' week.

In collaboration with Nordex, Global Wind Projects conducted a familiarisation session on the Nordex Emergency First Aid kit, on our current Douglas West Extension project. It is essential that all personnel understand where this life-saving equipment is located on site and the purpose of each section once the kit is opened. Having this knowledge can save valuable minutes in an emergency – minutes that can ultimately save lives.

Also this week, Ronnie MacPherson and Craig Provan from Marsh Insurance met with our HSEQ Director, Andrew Lount; Gordon Harper, General Manager of Global Crane Services (who are also members of SafetyOn); and Mark Webster, Group Insurance Manager at Global. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss how we operate as a business and the resources Marsh can offer to support human factors and behavioural safety.

Linking into SafetyOn’s ‘Stand Up for Safety Week’, Global Wind Projects was delighted to attend the Siemens Gamesa Onshore UK & IE Contractor Partnership Day in East Kilbride.

Our HSEQ Director Andrew Lount and General Manager Ryan Burke attended the event, with Andrew given the opportunity to present alongside Darren Taylor, Head of Onshore Operations UK & IE for Siemens Gamesa and Chair of the SafetyOn Leadership Board.

The presentation focused on how Global Wind Projects collaborated with Siemens Gamesa on an incident investigation last year, an approach that was well received by both Siemens Gamesa and their client. Siemens Gamesa chose to showcase this collaboration at the Partnership Day as the expected standard for other contractors, and unexpectedly, at the end of the presentation Global Wind Projects received an award in recognition of this work.

Andrew Lount, commented: “Health and Safety is a shared responsibility, and I want to recognise our technicians and crane teams for their ownership and accountability in maintaining a safe working environment and culture. Supporting the transition to clean energy is at the heart of what we do, and we’re committed to helping our partners keep their operations running smoothly and sustainably.”

Ryan Burke, General Manager, added: "We’re proud to strengthen our long-standing partnership with Siemens Gamesa, delivering expert crane and technician services for major component exchanges. These efforts help maintain their turbine fleet and ensure reliable renewable energy generation across the UK and Ireland."

“I would like to start by thanking our hardworking office and site teams, consisting of more than 140 GWO-certified specialists, for their continued hard work. I would also like to thank our clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and wider partners for their ongoing support throughout the year. Global Wind Projects continues to grow at pace and has established itself as a trusted partner to some of the largest contractors in the renewables sector.

“2025 has been a strong year for the business, with several key installation projects delivered across the UK and Ireland. Our Main Component Replacement teams also continued to work across numerous projects, completing in excess of 75 exchanges throughout the year. Looking ahead, 2026 is already shaping up to be another significant year, with an offshore project pipeline secured from mid-2026 through to the end of 2028 that will see skilled technicians and support teams mobilised from our bases across Scotland and Northern Ireland to deliver what will be the largest projects we have undertaken to date.”

Providing cranes and skilled wind turbine technicians, Global Wind Projects has concluded installation works at the 43 MW Farranrory Wind Farm in County Tipperary, delivered for our client Nordex on behalf of Ørsted. Our team is now focused on ensuring the mechanical and electrical completion of the project.

Around thirty members of our team were assigned to the works, and in partnership with our sister company, Global Crane Services, the LG1750 and LTM1230 were deployed to manage the lifts required for the nine N133/4800 turbines. This marks our fourth project with Nordex in Ireland, following Ardderroo, Sheskin and Yellow River Wind Farm, as well as several projects across the UK including Enoch Hill, Harting Rig/Kype Muir Ext. and Cumberhead Wind Farm. These shared projects have supported strong collaboration and teamwork, contributing to safe and successful delivery across all sites.

James Lappin, Senior Project Manager - Nordex UK & Ireland, commented: "We ‘Topped Out’ on FARR after just over 3 Months of Deliveries and Installations. This is a great result, but it doesn’t come as a surprise as the teamwork within Nordex and our supply chain was excellent throughout! There were plenty of challenges but the can do attitude and high morale ensured these were easily overcome. Lastly but by no means least the Windfarm build was completed with no First Aids or LTIs, which in itself is a great result!"

Farranrory marks the first agreement between Ørsted, one of the largest renewable energy companies in the world, and the Nordex Group. After completion and commissioning in 2026, the wind farm is expected to provide clean power to approximately twenty-five thousand homes across Ireland.
