🚨 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱𝗹𝘆 “𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴” £𝟭.𝟱 𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗬𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱? 🙄
𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.

So let's remind ourselves how this developed.
On 5 July, the 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗹 reported allegations made by former SNP branch secretary David Henry. Fellow campaigner Sean Clerkin subsequently joined him in pressing police to investigate.
On 12 July, Stuart Campbell's 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 amplified the story, using it to launch another attack on the SNP.
𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱.
The supposedly missing £1.5 million was actually 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, including staff salaries, premises, events and publications.
Yes Scotland's solicitor, Aamer Anwar, publicly explained this in July and the organisation voluntarily handed its accounts to Police Scotland.
Despite that, the allegations were repeatedly linked to 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗹'𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀, even though Yes Scotland was a separate organisation and Murrell had no access to its accounts, according to its former chief executive's solicitor.
Scottish Labour's 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲 also weighed in, demanding answers and further financial scrutiny.
𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.
So will the Sunday Mail, Wings Over Scotland and everyone else who amplified these allegations 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲?
Will those who encouraged suspicion now acknowledge the outcome?
And 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝗲 to those whose reputations were dragged through the mud?
