Glatthaar Keller GmbH & Co. KG has completed its 90,000th project in 46 years .
On two neighbouring plots, our teams installed two AquaSafe® basements with external insulation almost simultaneously,assembled in just two days. For the team on site, it was a tightly choreographed operation. For the families building their dream homes, it was a major step closer to moving in.
These projects also proof how far the the prefabricated basement process has gone. For example the concrete feature wall, manufactured off-site and lifted into place by crane with millimetre precision , built to support a floating timber staircase. One miscalculation, and the wall could have been damaged beyond repair.

Delivering Sustainable Basement Solutions in the UK 🇬🇧

We are proud to have successfully completed another basement project showcasing both technical precision and a strong commitment to sustainable construction.

This project incorporated a combined Type B (structurally integral) and Type C (drained protection) waterproofing system, ensuring long-term durability and resilience against groundwater while offering a high level of security for the structure.

A key highlight of the construction methodology was the installation of the reinforced concrete walls directly in front of the piling wall, eliminating the need for additional working space. This approach not only optimises site efficiency in constrained urban environments but also significantly reduces excavation volumes, material usage, and associated carbon impact.

Sustainability was further enhanced by the integration of 120 mm insulation beneath the base slab and to the external walls, improving the building’s thermal performance and contributing to long-term energy efficiency.

The basement is protected by a robust and redundant pumping strategy:
- A Type C cavity drain system with a twin pump arrangement
- A separate twin pump system for wastewater management
All pumps were supplied by Kessel (Germany), ensuring high reliability, energy efficiency, and compliance with the latest technical standards.

This project underlines our continued focus on delivering innovative, space-efficient, and sustainable basement solutions, tailored to the complex requirements of modern construction in the UK.

The recent Cooper project demonstrates how a fully precast basement system can streamline the delivery of complex below-ground structures, even when multiple functional zones must be integrated into a single build sequence.

Designed by and the pool contractor, the scheme required Glatthaar Keller to engineer and construct three connected elements: a plant-room basement, a linking tunnel, and the outer shell of a swimming-pool structure. Although the architectural concept was already fixed, Glatthaar was responsible for structural calculations, production drawings and the complete precast delivery. The team also constructed the ground-bearing slab.

When our clients set out to build a zero energy, carbon negative home nestled in a woodland setting, the foundations were as important as the new house.

Glatthaar UK engineered and installed a technically complex, three-part precast concrete solution:
🔲 A 9.6m × 4.8m plant-room basement
🛁 A pool shell (5m × 8m)
🔗 A linking tunnel connecting the two mcreating a distinctive Z-shaped footprint
The structures were manufactured in just three days, craned into place in another three days and the project was completed in just weeks. The airtight foundation is backed by Glatthaar´s ten year structural warranty.

Your basement is only as good as the company that builds it.
Choosing the wrong partner doesn’t just cost you money, it costs you time, stress, and sometimes your home’s structural integrity.

There are 3 construction methods to think about:
Shuttered Concrete. Common in the UK, but prone to leaking if not done right.

Brick & Block construction: Cinder blocks also retain moisture, making damp problems almost inevitable.

Precast Concrete Panels: Precision manufactured off site. Faster to install. Watertight when done properly. This is the Glatthaar standard.
Always insist on an insurance backed warranty, covering both structure and water ingress.

Sometimes clients compromise on what’s beneath their new home. 🏠
