It’s been a whole year since we became part of BRUSH Group and what a year it has been! 🎉 Along with getting to know the Group better we’ve been working hard on our ambitious growth plans - already achieving some notable milestones…

🤝 McGowan Group was named a contract partner to deliver part of Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution’s £450m system upgrade across Aberdeenshire and Caithness.
🥇McGowan Infrastructure scooped a major SSEN Distribution sustainability award for the UK’s first low carbon, high-voltage cable protection and installation technology - Eco Cable Protect UK.
🙌 McGowan Environmental delivered its largest annual programme of vital peatland restoration work to date.

Speaking on the one-year anniversary, BRUSH Group CEO, Nicolas Pitrat, said:

At McGowan Infrastructure, safety is our number one priority. As part of our commitment to safe working, the team at one of our underground HV cabling projects in Caithness recently took part in a safety stand down.

The stand down provided an opportunity for the team to hear updates on safety, policies and training, as well as to share their feedback on safe working. Operations Manager, Ross Forbes, comments:

“Safety is embedded in the culture at McGowan, and we look to empower our colleagues to challenge unsafe acts and conditions. The stand down provided a great opportunity to deliver important safety messaging and to get vital feedback from the team. The session was rounded off with the team enjoying some well-earned fish & chips to recognise their ongoing efforts in making McGowan Infrastructure a great - and safe - place to work!”

We’re delighted to announce that leading energy engineering solutions provider BRUSH Group has acquired a majority stake in McGowan Group. The deal sees McGowan – a National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) accredited Independent Connection Provider (ICP) – become a key part of BRUSH Engineering Solutions, a leader in turnkey solutions to the UK’s power distribution network. McGowan Group companies include McGowan Infrastructure, McGowan Environmental and Eco Cable Protect UK.

Speaking about the investment, Nicolas Pitrat, CEO of BRUSH Group, said: “This is an exciting deal for both BRUSH and McGowan, creating significant growth opportunities both north and south of the border. There are strong synergies between our two businesses and McGowan’s impressive environmental credentials add a new dimension to our engineering capabilities. What’s more, their exclusive Eco Cable Protect business gives BRUSH customers a lower cost, lower carbon alternative protection system for cable and pipe laying projects across the UK."

Celebrating Project Milestones with Freedom Group

We’re thrilled to announce key milestones in our ongoing civil engineering project for Freedom Group. At the substation in Inverness, we successfully completed stage one of the groundwork and poured the concrete foundations for the transformer halls and substation building. The structural steelwork is now being erected, marking a significant step forward in the project’s progression.

Special thanks to our subcontractors Ltd for their excellent work on the concrete foundations, AJ Engineering and Construction Services for their precision in erecting the structural steelwork and for their invaluable technical and engineering support.

In addition, the underground cable route from Longman Drive to Riverside St. is now 85% complete, despite numerous challenges.

None of this progress would have been possible without the dedication and teamwork of our incredible colleagues at McGowan Infrastructure. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do, and this progress reflects the strength of our team and our partners in delivering excellence for our clients.

McGowan Group has earned an EcoVadis Bronze Medal reflecting the quality of the group's sustainability management system. The recognition is awarded to the Top 35% of companies assessed in the last 12 month and demonstrates a commitment to promoting transparency throughout the value chain.

ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE: Cabling & Substations

33kV UGC and Fibre Cabling works for the Longman Substation Project being delivered by McGowan Infrastructure have now successfully reached the 1000-metre mark - representing 40% of the total project. This significant progress is a testament to our team's dedication and precision.

Nothing is more important than the safety of our team and our investment in an excavator-mounted Suction Excavator from Tinbin has been crucial in ensuring the highest safety standards while working around live services.

Simultaneously, our efforts on the 33/11kV Substation construction are progressing smoothly. We have successfully removed and rerouted the live cables within the platform, completed the site clearance, and are well underway with the reinforced concrete works.

We're delighted to announce that we have been accredited as a employer. The Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at McGowan Infrastructure receive at least the minimum hourly wage of £12 per hour, delivering a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.

The Living Wage rate is higher than the government minimum for over 21s, which currently stands at £11.44 per hour, and is calculated according to the costs of living.

Speaking about McGowan Group's decision to become a Living Wage employer, Peter Kelly, Director of The Poverty Alliance said: “We all need an income that is enough to cover our needs and protect us from poverty, and it’s only right that employers pay a wage that reflects the cost of living. Too many workers in Scotland are paid less than the real Living Wage and, at a time of rising costs, are struggling to stay afloat. The real Living Wage can offer protection from those rising costs.

“Congratulations to McGowan Group on their Living Wage commitment, and I hope more organisations follow their lead by becoming Living Wage accredited.”

We are delighted to unveil our new group structure, launching McGowan Group's three distinct business units as standalone entities:

* McGowan Infrastructure
* McGowan Environmental
* Eco Cable Protect UK

The new structure comes as we gear up to play a vital role in national energy infrastructure build out through McGowan Infrastructure and expand our design and delivery of restoration and outdoor access projects through McGowan Environmental. This is accompanied by demand for Eco Cable Protect UK which supplies new, exclusive and innovative cable protection and installation technology for the UK’s onshore energy and utility industries.

Speaking about the new group structure, McGowan Group founder, Ross McGowan, said:

“With the huge opportunities open to us in the energy infrastructure sector as part of network build out driven by the RIIO-ED2 price control programme - which sets the outputs that the 14 electricity Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) need to deliver for their consumers from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2028 - combined with the continued organic growth of our environmental division - the creation of two new, distinct companies in McGowan Infrastructure and McGowan Environmental serving different, but growing, sectors gives each clearer direction and focus which will enable further growth.

“Our energy infrastructure - including cabling and substations - contract pipeline for the next 3 or 4 years is extremely healthy and will be better serviced by having McGowan Infrastructure and Eco Cable Protect as standalone entities.
