Our latest project was supporting a client on their decarbonisation journey, this small change has delivered a meaningful impact.
During our audit, we found that the entrance door air curtains (rated at 4.2kW) were operating via fixed wall thermostats. This meant they were left running 24/7, even if the building was unoccupied which led to significant unnecessary energy use.
The solution was both quick and cost-effective. By leveraging the client’s existing LoRaWAN infrastructure (previously installed by MCE), we repurposed two sensors to control the units based on temperature. A Milesight IoT relay was introduced to manage the contactors, enabling smarter, demand-based operation.
To further minimise heat loss, we installed an Elsys door contact, ensuring only one unit is in operation when the doors are open.
The result: a reduction of around 70% in operating time thus delivering immediate energy and cost savings without major infrastructure changes.
