Cladding:
At work Where ltd we know one of our client’s major considerations is that of future maintenance. Our buildings are crafted using a number of environmentally friendly and low or zero maintenance options for façade cladding.
There are a number of timber products available that require no coatings applied to protect against weather. “Thermowood” being one of the most cost effective. The timber undergoes a heating process in a special oven. The resulting timber product is a lot more stable, with minimal moisture absorption. Durability is also enhanced, leaving the insects and fungi known to cause timber damage with little to feed on. Making “Thermowood” a very popular choice for low maintenance softwood cladding. It requires no staining or treating and will naturally weather down over time.
Then there is “Timber Scorching” using Siberian Larch which sounds extreme but is incredibly effective at producing a durable and maintenance free timber cladding.
The controlled burning of the wood draws out natural resins and leaves a layer of carbon on the surface. As an integral part of the timber, this weatherproofing system is long-lasting. It is often coated with an oil finish for added resilience.
Different levels of scorching can be achieved all of which offer outstanding weather resistance and low or zero maintenance.
