Charity bowling night ballot winners. As part of our bowling night we held a ballot for 2 prizes, an iPad donated by Toshiba Air Conditioning and a Northern Ireland shirt which was worn by Paul Smyth during the recent match against Belarus. The shirt was very kindly donated by Paul Smyths father-in-law, Colin Orr of Hanna Mechanical Services. The ballot raised £1,000 which was split between the charities chosen by the two winners.

The first winner, Stephen Crosbie of TB&A chose to donate his £500 to Bangor Food Bank. Ken Scott, the Manager of Bangor Food Bank received the cheque from Stephen, following the presentation Ken gave us a tour of the food bank and what an impressive facility it is! Bangor NI Foodbank has been established since January 2012 and last year gave out 33,000 meals to local charities and clients in need in the Bangor area.

The second Ballot winner, Feargal from QUB chose NI Hospice as his charity to receive £500.00 Feargal presented the cheque to Kieran from NI Hospice. Also present was Colin Orr from Hanna Mechanical Services who very kindly donated the Northern Ireland. Another great local charity, the Hospice offers specialist respite, symptom management and end of life palliative care to 4,000 infants, children and adults each year across Northern Ireland.

Well done guys, two great charities!

Thursday 21st November saw BL hold our annual charity bowling night. This year was a special occasion being the 25th year we have held this night. Once again, the event proved to be very popular, we reckon that we had a record breaking attendance of around 150 people! Thanks to everyone for giving up their time, particularly as it was a very cold and snowy evening. We are truly humbled that year on year we never have any problems filling the lanes. A special thanks to David Willis whose organisation ensured that once again the evening ran smoothly.

So the prizes, the winning team was TB&A, 2nd place Williams and Shaw and 3rd placing going to CHC. TB&A have chosen Marie Curie as their charity to receive the prize of £1000. Well done guys.

The best female score went to Christine Smyth from FB Smyth who won a voucher for the Grand Central Hotel and £100 for her chosen charity, Friends of the Cancer Centre. Second place female went to Natasha from CHC and 3rd place to Elaine from Williams and Shaw.

The best male was Luca from Williams and Shaw who also won a voucher for the Grand Central Hotel and £100 for his chosen charity, Child Line. Second place male was Garth from Telesense and 3rd place was Dean from Williams and Shaw.

In addition, we had 10 spot prizes who all won a M&S Voucher, also 2 ballot prizes; an Ipad and a signed Northern Ireland shirt worn by Paul Smyth during their recent win over Belarus.

Finally, we have to thank our many sponsors who donate prizes – Toshiba Air Conditioning, Munters dehumidifiers, Mitsubishi Air Conditioning, Elta Fans, EICL, FB Smyth and Coldstore Services

The winning team from our recent bowling night chose Northern Ireland Air Ambulance as the charity to receive the £1,000 prize. This was added to by Richard Gilpin of Williams & Shaw who won the male prize of £100. So last Friday Williams & Shaw and Richard Gilpin presented Grace from Air Ambulance NI with a cheque for £1,100.00.

Since it started in 2015 Air Ambulance NI has provided critical care to many people throughout Northern Ireland and saved countless lives.

As a registered charity Air Ambulance NI needs to raise £2.5 million each year to keep going so well done to all at Williams & Shaw for choosing this very worthwhile charity.

Clandeboye Lodge Events building air conditioning upgrade

With the existing Events suite air conditioning system ageing and struggling to maintain condition and operating with a large carbon footprint the client decided it was time to do an upgrade.

BL got involved in the design and tender process and offered several solutions from a simple roof top package system replacing the existing like for like to a state-of-the-art air handling system.

The client decided to go the extra mile and install the air handling system solution which although a higher capital cost would reduce carbon footprint and produce energy savings for many years to come.

The logistics of the project proved difficult but working together with the client we installed the plant and ductwork leaving just final connections for a quick changeover at commissioning stage.

The design included using an AHU with 4 No. Toshiba heat pump units with smart controls operating on temperature and CO2 levels to control heating, cooling, and ventilation to the space.

All equipment was installed and commissioned to programme and to the satisfaction of the client with energy savings to be monitored moving forward.

Equipment
1(No.) Mark Eire AHU and Toshiba 20 kW outdoor units
