Responsible decommissioning – doing it the right way. 🌍❄️
Just carefully decommissioned this older Daikin split system. It's served its time, but before it goes, there's a crucial step that often gets overlooked...
This unit runs on R410A refrigerant – an HFC with a Global Warming Potential of 2,088. That means releasing just 1kg of this gas into the atmosphere has the same warming effect as over 2 tonnes of CO₂. 😳
So we didn't just snip the pipes and walk away. Here's what proper decommissioning looks like:
✅ Fully recovered every gram of R410A using specialist recovery equipment – no venting, no "gassing off"
✅ Weighed and logged the recovered amount for full compliance records
✅ Stored in dedicated recovery cylinders – clearly labelled and leak-tested
✅ Arranged licensed disposal through registered waste carriers who reclaim or destroy the gas responsibly
✅ Recovered compressor oil and segregated metals for recycling where possible
This isn't just 'good practice' – in the UK, it's F-Gas law. Only properly certified engineers can legally handle refrigerant recovery, and cutting corners can land you with fines of up to £200,000+ per offence. 💷
Why it matters:
🌍 Protects the ozone layer and reduces carbon footprint
📜 Keeps you on the right side of environmental regulations
♻️ Ensures the old unit's materials are recycled, not landfilled
Always choose an F-Gas certified installer who takes end-of-life disposal seriously. Your planet – and your conscience – will thank you. 🙏
