Stop treating your compressor like a volume k**b. Treat it like an instrument. 🎹

If you think all compressors do the same thing, you're missing out on 50% of your tone.

We often see engineers using an LA-2A on a metal snare drum and wondering why it "disappears." Or putting an aggressive 1176 on a ballad vocal and fighting the grit.
