Niwa House by , engineered with , continues to receive recognition, recently winning the AJ House of the Year (Manser Medal) and a 2025 RIBA London Award. It is also featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs: House of the Year.

Set behind a terrace in south London, the house uses a composite timber-and-stone structure where stone slabs take compression and glulam beams take tension. This provides stiffness and thermal mass, helping to keep the home comfortable without mechanical cooling.
The design links the interior with enclosed gardens and courtyards, and the layout is fully wheelchair accessible, reflecting the needs of the family who live there.

Very pleased that the Niwa House, by , won the Private Housing Project of the Year award at the Structural Timber Awards last week. Xylotek delivered the refined glulam oak frame, working with engineer on the technical detailing, and carrying out the installation in its tight London site.

Delighted with the final project photos of the CLT staircase in Central Birmingham.

🔍 The feature CLT stairs are the focal point of the office space and enable the transitions between floors to be both robust and beautiful. It's fantastic to see the offices come to life with the greenery and timber elements.

Our carpenters have made many interesting projects over the years. The hands-on knowledge from the carpentry team, feeding back into the design team allows for strong collaboration. From steam-bending to precision joinery, the research and development team at our Bristol workshop can push the boundaries and capabilities of building with timber.
