Are we actually ventilating the room? 💨

After more than 30 years working in residential ventilation, Paul Harrington, Social Housing Director at Vortice, knows that achieving the correct litres per second at a terminal doesn't necessarily tell the whole story.

Where is that air actually going?

While reviewing a recent social housing refurbishment project, the proposed position of the MVHR supply terminals raised an important question about how effectively air would move through the occupied space.

Paul explores why terminal positioning, transfer routes and actual airflow through the room matter — not simply the figure recorded at commissioning.

Because achieving the airflow rate and effectively ventilating the room aren't necessarily the same thing.

Is MVHR always the right answer?

Drawing on over 30 years of experience in residential ventilation, Paul Harrington, Social Housing Director at Vortice, explores a question that arose while reviewing a live social housing refurbishment project:

Is MVHR always the most appropriate solution for the building we are trying to install it in?

MVHR can provide excellent continuous ventilation and heat recovery when correctly designed, installed and maintained.

But existing buildings come with existing layouts, structures and constraints.

Paul's experience has shown why we should perhaps start with the building and its long-term requirements — not the technology.

Sometimes the answer will be MVHR. Sometimes it won't.
