Big Energy Savings Week! 🏘️
Big Energy Saving Week takes place from January 17-24 - and is a national campaign focused on helping individuals learn how to cut their energy bills and get all the financial support they are entitled to.
The initiative, led by the Energy Saving Trust in partnership with Citizens Advice and the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy, aims to raise public awareness about the importance of energy efficiency and the simple steps that can be taken to make homes more energy-efficient.
Big Energy Saving Week provides valuable information and resources on how to save energy, reduce carbon emissions, and lower energy costs, particularly crucial during the colder months. The campaign includes a range of activities, from workshops and events to online advice and tools, all designed to empower consumers to make informed decisions about their energy use.
You can also use this week to get into the habit of adopting simple changes, like switching off lights, unplugging unused devices, and using energy-efficient appliances - all of which can help reduce costs.
These small adjustments can lead to lower household expenses but can also ease financial pressure on individuals, couples and families.
As we mark , we would like to highlight the wide range of different schemes across the UK to help improve the energy efficiency of homes. Most of these are targeted at lower income households living in less energy efficient properties. Some schemes are taxpayer funded, others are delivered by energy suppliers and funded through a levy on energy bills.
The Energy Efficiency Obligation (ECO) has been the main energy efficiency scheme over the last decade delivering 4.1 million measures in 2.5 million homes between 2013 and autumn 2024. It is funded by a levy on household energy bills, but the Government sets the overall scheme targets and rules.
Insulation can play a major part in energy saving and energy efficiency. An estimated 5.1 million properties in Great Britain with cavity walls have no cavity wall insulation, while around 7.9 million homes with lofts have less than 125mm of loft insulation. And 7.7 million homes with solid walls do not have solid wall insulation.
