A new concept in electric motors is ready to be launched, read the story here: First comes the idea …. but it’s often not enough.
Some 13 years ago Tommy Shaw had an idea and it was a good one. He thought that the costs of the permanent magnet motor, with its electronic controls and drivers was very high, so he came up with a better design
Since then, several companies and many attempts failed to deliver him workable prototype that improved on existing models.
ETS Design was asked then to get involved in the project after the series of failures.
Step one for ETS Design was to use contacts at Sheffield University to create a map showing where this new motor could fit in the marketplace
Next we selected a motor manufacturer willing to work on benchmarking its most popular motor on general sale.
By reverse engineering and analysing this benchmark motor, we designed a newly-renamed ETA motor. And to highlight its advantage over the existing conventional versions in:
• power output,
• temperature control,
• efficiency.
The process from beginning to end took just over 12 months. Now ETS has a validated design, have proven to the client that it works and it does have a number of key advantages. Sadly though its inventor, Mr Shaw, has since died.
We now want to commercialise the 150 watt design and partner with an existing motor manufacturer, transferring what we have learned to them. Ultimately this could lead to good sales of this, the first, in a new generation of innovative electric motors.
