The Impact Engineer Programme is a short course co-created with our university partners in East Africa, designed to equip emerging engineers with the skills, mindset, and community to tackle real development challenges.

Another unboxing day! 🎉

A new Majicom kiosk has just arrived at Kenyatta University’s Nairobi campus, adding to the growing number of systems already supporting the university community.

This latest unit features an upgraded PCB and improved water flow control, making it even more reliable and easier to maintain. It will be powered by solar energy and a re-purposed lithium-ion battery sourced from e-waste, enabling it to operate through power outages whilst reducing the carbon footprint of the water we treat.

Once installed, it will provide affordable, clean, and sustainable drinking water for students and staff 💧

With our academic and research partners in Dar es Salaam, we co-created the Impact Engineer Course. This is an extra-curricular training programme designed to give recent graduates the skills and confidence to make a real difference in their local communities.

In one of the modules, we ran a hands-on workshop where students learned how to manufacture parts for our kiosks using glass-fibre lamination. Together, we explored different manufacturing methods, discussed their pros and cons, and brainstormed potential applications - before rolling up our sleeves and getting to work!

Our training programmes are designed to be practical, engaging, and confidence-building, helping young engineers turn ideas into tangible solutions.

We can’t wait to welcome the next group of students and see what they create. 🌍💧

Our tech team has been hard at work building and shipping the next batch of Majicom kiosks to Kenya. Over the past year, we’ve been listening closely to user and partner feedback and making big improvements to our core product.

Improved level sensor & flow control – for even more reliable water dispensing 💧

Streamlined production – a more efficient workflow for our glass-fibre shells ⚙️

Our first-generation kiosks have been proudly designed and built at Makespace, a vibrant community workshop in the heart of Cambridge. Next stop: transferring manufacturing to East Africa 🌍
