Everything Electric has just published a new video in which Robert Llewellyn visits two real homes using our sodium-ion battery systems.

Rather than filming another demonstration system, the team spoke directly with homeowners about why they chose sodium-ion technology and what the systems are actually like to live with.

One of the homeowners is also an experienced solar and battery system designer. He explains how he designed a large residential system with 29 panels, a 12 kW inverter and battery storage, and how he uses the battery to extend his export period while remaining within a 4.4 kW grid export limit.

At the second home, the customer talks about the sustainability considerations behind her decision, the importance of having an installer who used the system himself, and what it is like to have the batteries installed inside the house.

The video also covers:

• Sodium-ion versus lithium-ion for stationary storage
• Modular and stackable battery capacity
• Larger 8 kW, 10 kW and 12 kW residential inverters
• Smart tariffs and automated battery optimisation
• EV charger and immersion-heater integration
• Low-temperature operation
• Long-term battery cycling

It is deliberately not presented as “sodium good, lithium bad”. Andy makes the point that modern lithium iron phosphate home batteries are already very safe, while explaining the areas in which sodium-ion can offer additional advantages.

I would be interested to hear what installers and homeowners in this group think about sodium-ion’s role in the domestic battery market.
