Throwback to Central View, Newport - a standout regeneration development delivered for Codi Group that still looks every bit as impressive when we recently took an opportunity to revisit.

Originally transforming the former Hornblower Pub site on Commercial Street, the scheme was designed to bring high-quality later living apartments into the heart of the city while helping drive wider regeneration in the area.

And looking at these latest photos exactly six years on … you’re hard pushed to tell them apart from those at handover, which look like CGIs themselves! Can you tell which ones are which! The striking façade, detailing and overall finish have stood the test of time.

A project we’re proud to have been part of, and one that continues to showcase the impact of thoughtful design and quality construction. It’s real testament to strong design, quality materials and the delivery team.

Through the community investment linked to our Beacon Cymru Group ‘Big Shed’ development, we recently funded Cardiff City FC Community Foundation to deliver a bespoke 5-week ‘Build a Stadium’ programme with four local Tonypandy primary schools: Cwm Clydach, Llwynypia, Ss Gabriel & Raphael and Williamstown Primary. 🏫

The brief was simple: design a stadium that works better for the people using it and the community around it. Over the project, Year 5 & 6 pupils explored what that really means; looking at sustainability, accessibility and how these spaces are used day to day through drawing, AI and junk modelling, alongside physical football-based activities to complement their learning. 🏗️🌳🦾

A session for each school was delivered by Willis, focusing on construction and health & safety, giving learners a practical view of how those ideas translate onto a live construction site and the responsibility that comes with it. The children were also tasked with designing their own H&S signs, which led to some wonderful, colourful creations. 👷‍♀️👷

The programme wrapped up with a celebration event at Cardiff City Stadium, where the winning teams from each school presented their stadium designs and shared what they had learned. The confidence and quality of the presentations genuinely stood out - clear thinking, well-developed ideas, and the ability to explain how and why they created their stadiums. 🏟️

The judges had a difficult task, considering not just the designs but the thinking and teamwork behind them. Congratulations to Ss Gabriel and Raphael RC Primary School, whose overall entry came top of the league 👏

To complete the experience, all the children were taken pitchside, stepping right up close to the edge, taking in the scale and atmosphere from a position usually reserved for those at the centre of the game. From building their own stadiums to walking through the tunnel like professionals, the day provided lasting memories, inspired future construction talent, and maybe even created few new football fans!⚽

We’ve completed the build phase of our construction project at Nyth y Deryn Pupil Referral Unit. As part of our social value delivery on The Mill with Cadwyn Housing Association (Cadarn Housing Group), we are working with learners through a series of hands-on, practical sessions to improve their outdoor area.

A huge part of what’s made this a success, is the support from our subcontractor Advanced Carpentry Solutions Ltd. All members of their team have been exceptional during the project, taking the time to work alongside learners, getting to know them and explaining tasks clearly. They created an environment where the young people felt comfortable to get involved and thrive.

As the sessions progressed, you could see the shift with the leaners - more confidence, more interaction, and a greater willingness to take part. It’s not just about construction skills, but building confidence, communication, and real engagement in a working environment - using tools, handling materials, and building an understanding of how a live project comes together.

We were particularly impressed with one learner Neil, who even overcame some fears to participate, and now wants to work in the Construction Industry when he is older. He was rewarded for his hard work and determination by being able to keep his dedicated PPE he used throughout the sessions.

Thank you to Advanced Carpentry Solutions Ltd. for making this element of the project such a success. We’re looking forward to continuing the works and seeing the learners continue develop as the project moves forward on the painting & decorating phase.

It was 'awesome' to play a part in the Cardiff LEGO League Finals 2026 🤖, volunteering to support the event alongside other likeminded STEM organisations through our collaboration with Cardiff Commitment, and forming part of our social value commitments on Cadwyn Housing Association (Cadarn Housing Group) development, The Mill.

This event was one of three finals days for 21 schools over all ages groups. It brought together Year 5 and 6 learners from 8 schools to take on a series of LEGO-based engineering and coding missions as part of this year’s Unearthed theme. It was inspiring to see the creativity, teamwork and problem-solving on display, with students designing, building and programming robots to tackle the challenges.

Events like this play an important role in building confidence in STEM subjects while promoting innovation, inclusion and collaboration - it was a pleasure to be a part the day. Well done to everyone involved 👏
