Dare To Dig Ltd - Water Harvesting System.

Originally the customer wanted to excavate an old tank and replace it. Unfortunately, the ground was unstable with wet sand and ground movement, therefore the tank had collapsed, so therefore was unsafe to work on. After making the old tank safe by filling it with stone we agreed on a new site for the new tank.
Excavation was carried out In good ground and a reinforced concrete base was installed onto which a new tank could be secured. The area around the tank was backfilled with a lean mix of reinforced concrete. Not only providing structure around the tank to stop it from collapsing, but also encapsulated it, stoping movement or floatation. New 110mm pipework was installed to the tank, coming from a large 2 car garage and workshop, also a large house roof. An electric sump-pump was installed in the tank to pump out water in 32mm pipe, to be reused around the property. An over-spill waste pipe was supplied into the tank to allow excess water to drain into a soak-away system.
The tank installation was then covered with a layer of clay and 230mm of topsoil.
Turf will be laid next year.

Garden clearance — Property had been neglected, both the front and back gardens were totally overgrown. Ivy, brambles, elderberry trees and basically anything else that could grow quickly!
Unfortunately all these plants have huge roots which had to be removed!
3X 6 yard skips were used, which were compacted as much as possible!

Widening drive access and parking area. Temporary finish until building works have finished.
Hedge and old gate pillars removed. 32t excavated, removed from site, with the help of two grab wagons.
20t of MOT stone in and compacted. Laid on top a membrane to stop soil from coming through and spread the weight.

Ditching - A good days work for Dare to Dig’s JCB 3cx, showing its full reach of 21 foot, with the extending dipper boom and its versatility.

The land owner needed his ditch cleared and re-excavated. The base of the ditch was not falling downwards to the culvert mouth and in certain places had collapsed. Excavated soil was put on the verge and levelled off.
Whilst digging in the verge, I found the culvert grill which had been discarded at some point. Why I don’t know because obviously debris was able to get down the culvert and potentially block it.

The land owner also asked for a gateway to be reopened, that had overgrown and the local highways authority had done works that made it fairly inaccessible.
