This big curved bench was made and fitted for the artists' green room at the O2. Deep buttoned back, upholstered in Sunbury's Chaps Teardrop in blue.

I love deep buttoning; Dad is the master at getting it perfect every time. It takes patience; with every button pulled evenly across a curve like that isn't easy, but it's what gives the piece its finish.

We supplied the upholstery on this one, working alongside the D2 team, which is always a pleasure!

Back in the workshop, and we have this beautiful white bench taking shape, upholstered in Modelli Fabrics Trieste in white, clean and simple.

This one is in its new home in Berlin!

Dad and I were recently back at Upstairs by Tom Shepherd for a bit of maintenance. We are always happy to be working here; the smells coming out of that kitchen were ridiculously good and made the job even better.

Big thanks to Tom for his continued custom; always good to be back.

I love a bit of deep buttoning. An upholstery skill that looks simple, but if you don't get it right on every button, it shows.

Done properly, this is still the OG of upholstery. Some might say it's not for the cool kids anymore, we'd disagree.

Bright and bold fabric for the back of the seat, in the workshop at the moment. This one's being paired with a deep set green seat, they look fantastic together.

Taking a plain space and making it a little more comfortable, a little more inviting.

The most important question on any commercial project isn't what looks good on day one (although we make sure this is true as well; it always looks good on day one!). It's what still looks good two years in.

Commercial seating takes a hammering. It’s in use every single day, and it needs to hold up. That means the right fabric for the environment, with the right foam density underneath and a solid frame construction. It's the stuff nobody sees that determines how long everything lasts.

We build it properly for another reason too. When something does wear or take a knock, we can come back and repair it, not replace the whole piece. We've done exactly that for a few of our commercial clients already. Saves them money, saves the furniture from landfill, and it's usually done in a fraction of the time a full replacement would take.

Does sustainability matter to you?

Deep buttoning

looks easy till you try it yourself! Every button's got to pull even and sit the same depth. Miss it on one and you'll see it across the whole seat.

My dad's the one who really nails it, with years of experience behind him.

It's a busy one at the moment.

In the last 48 hours, I think I've worked about 40 of them. That's just how it goes sometimes when the projects are on, and the deadlines are all at once.

Can't share everything we're working on just yet, but there's some really exciting stuff in the pipeline that we can't wait to show you.

Cool grey and stark white have had their moment.

The spaces we're working in right now are warmer, richer and more considered: olive greens, deep blues, chocolate leather, earthy tones. It's a shift that's happening right across hospitality and commercial interiors, and it makes for much more interesting projects.

Fabric and upholstery are a big part of how that warmth lands in a space. Get the material and colour right, and it changes everything about how a room feels.

Working with some of the best designers in the business means we are making pieces that end up in some pretty special places, so it has to be pretty special upholstery!

What do you think? Are you all about that plain palette, or do you agree that it's all about considered colour now?
