Here's a stage by stage breakdown in 7 pics of the restoration of a mullioned, transomed window at King John's castle, a 930 year old castle in Gloucestershire. The remit here is to conserve these windows as long as possible . Limited piecing in, as the lamination throughout is too severe. Peelaway, washing, picking, scraping, chipping, Pinning, layers of stainless meshing, pointing. No 8 of 10 windows.. conservation over the moon, customer happy, me and the team are happy. All the final pics look as if it's all been covered in mortar it's just the light the previous pick shows most of the areas filled and moulded mortar mix. Outside is getting a lime wash treat and cracks, holes have already been repaired. Also a deteriorated hood moulding will have a lead flash cut in to try and conserve it's life a little more.. may buy the window another 50 years ... It's lasted this loong and still got a little life in it.. ππΌ hope y'all are good out there β
P.s I know this window may not be that old but the main tower was built 930 years ago and the extention I'd say is still very old indeed. 600 ?
