This weekend we host Gala Hotspur Football Club at Elliot Park as both teams look to finish the season strongly. We also mark Past Players Day at the club so we hope to see a big crowd down to cheer on the boys. Kick off at 2pm and the bar will be open for adults and there will be sweets and juice for kids.

It was honours even at Bridgend today as a big crowd was treated to a competitive match in the local derby.

Jed started on the front foot with Laing shooting wide after a Davidson flick on in the opening 10 minutes before Davidson then went close himself with a header which drifted over the bar. Davidson eventually got Jed in front on 20 minutes when Melrose flighted a ball into the box and the centre forward controlled and rounded the keeper before tucking away.

Jed continued to enjoy possession in the middle of the park and keep Ancrum away from troubling their goal as the first half drew to a close.

HT: 0-1

The second half started in much the same way and Davidson could have made the afternoon very difficult for the hosts when he rolled the Ancrum centre back but saw his shot tipped over the bar on 55 minutes. That seemed to be the turning point with Ancrum then enjoying more possession and putting the Jed defence under pressure as the game wore on.

A series of fouls allowed Ancrum to send balls in for the Jed defence to deal with and Skeldon did well to tip one over the bar before Ancrum finally unlocked the away defence with 5 minutes to play. Another free kick into the box was won in the air by the Ancrum striker and whilst Skeldon got down well to save, the ball squirmed into the net.

There was still time for both teams to try to find a winner and Kelly had a great opportunity to get Jed back in front in the dying minutes but his cutback found the hands of the Ancrum keeper.

FT: 1-1

A point on our travels may have been a fair result on the balance of play but Jed were disappointed not to see the game out and claim their first derby win a number of years.

Man of the Match: Russell. The battling midfielder was at the heart of every transition in the first half and kept Jed ticking over in the middle of the park. The second half was about discipline out of possession and the teenager was critical in keeping his side well organised.

Next up for Jed is a long midweek trip to Stow on Tuesday followed by Gala Hotspur at Elliot Park on Saturday for our Past Players Day.
