The G99/NI Fast Track is changing on the May 1st 2026 and it's a meaningful shift for anyone considering solar, battery storage, or both.
The headline: NIE Networks is raising the Total Installed Capacity limit from 16A to 60A per phase. That's up to 13.8 kW on single phase or 41.4 kW on three phase, under the same streamlined Fast Track route. Same application fee. Maximum Export Capacity stays the same too, at 3.68 / 11.04 kW.
What it really means: you can size a system around what your site actually uses, not around an artificial grid ceiling. Bigger solar arrays and meaningful battery storage under a single Fast Track application, instead of being pushed into a full G99 process.
For small and medium businesses, this is the change that makes commercial rooftop solar meaningfully more workable under Fast Track. NIE itself is expecting a significant uptick in renewable and BESS connections from the 1st of May.
If a project didn't quite stack up under the old rules, it's worth a fresh look.

The power dip in Belfast earlier the other week caused more disruption than many people expected.

We heard from several businesses who were caught out by the brief interruption and are now working with us to implement the right power protection for future power events.

This is a common blind spot:

It’s not only big blackouts that cause disruption.

It’s the momentary power blips no one plans for.

Milliseconds of lost power can trigger hours of downtime.

If your operation depends on clean, continuous power, secure power solutions are essential infrastructure. UPS and battery-backed secure power solutions are designed to protect against exactly these events.

If the last dip exposed a weakness, now’s the time to fix it.

Message us for a quick resilience check.

This month, Director Andrew Wilson was invited to the UK delegation on the Data Centre Trade Mission to the Netherlands, alongside industry leaders at Kickstart Europe 2026 in Amsterdam, hosted with support from the British Embassy in The Hague.
The visit included a data centre site tour, technical briefings, and roundtable discussions focused on the future of resilient, energy-aware infrastructure across Europe.
With data centre demand accelerating, these conversations are directly shaping how we continue to develop our capabilities around secure power, UPS systems, battery energy storage (BESS), and hybrid energy solutions for mission-critical environments.
We’re proud to be representing Northern Ireland engineering on an international stage – and bringing those insights back into the projects we deliver at home.

Proud to be on site at Capper Trading Ltd Tamnamore today for the announcement of their £6m renewable energy hub investment, supported by the Shared Island Sustainability Capital Grant scheme funded by Government of Ireland through the Shared Island Enterprise Scheme, in partnership with InterTradeIreland and Enterprise Ireland.

Wilson Power & Energy is delivering the interconnected solar PV, battery energy storage and EV infrastructure that will support this project across two sites, enabling on-site renewable electricity generation for low-carbon manufacturing.

Subject to planning approval, the hub is expected to generate 3.1 million units of renewable electricity per year and remove over 1,250 tonnes of carbon from company emissions.

A strong example of how businesses across Northern Ireland are investing in renewable energy to support productivity, competitiveness and long-term sustainability, and we are proud to be a part of that journey.

We were delighted to attend today’s SONI Energy Forum, where the Northern Ireland Chamber launched “Building Momentum with Common Purpose” — a clear, industry-led call to accelerate Northern Ireland’s energy transition.

The paper sets out practical priorities to:
• Strengthen energy security and grid resilience
• Unlock investment certainty for businesses
• Accelerate decarbonisation across power, heat and transport
• Reduce long-term system costs for consumers
• Drive coordinated action across government, regulators and industry

The message is clear: businesses are ready to invest — clarity, collaboration and pace are now critical.

👉 At Wilson Power & Energy, we’re actively supporting organisations navigating grid constraints, on-site generation, storage and resilience challenges.
If you’re exploring how to move projects forward in today’s network environment, we’d be happy to start the conversation.

☀️Solar performance drops fast when grime builds up but proper maintenance brings an array straight back into fighting shape.
Our team has carried out a full PV service for our client which included

• Module cleaning and visual inspection

• String-level performance and insulation resistance testing

• DC and AC connection torque checks

• Inverter diagnostics and firmware updates

• Inspection of isolators, fuses, and surge protection devices
Now this system is back to peak performance. Routine maintenance protects your investment and boosts yield.
If your PV looks like the before photos it may be time to get in touch.

👷Teamwork at new heights.
Sometimes the best way to assess a site is to get up close — and in this case, that meant going up.
Our team recently carried out a detailed roof assessment with Albert Fry & Associates, using a boom lift to capture accurate structural measurements and evaluate the roof’s suitability for solar PV installation.
These early-stage assessments ensure every system we design is safe, efficient, and optimised for long-term performance.
A small glimpse behind the scenes of how we turn roofs into renewable energy assets.

It’s all part of making sure every system we design is the right fit; from the first survey to the final switch-on.
